Brookfield - In 1840 this town contained as indicated by the
United States Census 6 houses, 166 neat cattle, & 384 swine; the
crops were 287 bushels of wheat, 50 of barley, 350 of oats, 10 of
buckwheat, 1364 of Indian corn and 2350 of potatoes;
184 tons of hay were cut, mostly from the "Big Meadow"
and 2655 pounds of maple sugar were made.
