Calumet County is bounded on the north by Brown county, on the east by Manitowoc, on the south by Sheboygan and Fond du Lac, and on the west by Winnebago county; or on the north by the line between towns twenty and twenty one, on the east by the line between ranges twenty and twenty one, on the south by the south line of town seventeen range twenty and thesouth line of the Indian Reservation produced into Lake Winnebago, and on the west by the line between ranges seventeen and eighteen. It is twenty four miles long from north to south and eighteen miles wide, with an area three hundred and ninety six square miles or sections. Calumet County was set off from Brown county in 1836 and was organized as a separate county in 1842. Its population in 1840 was 275 in 182-407-. The county seat is

The soil is rich, covered with timber- the rocks beneath are mostly limestone-occasionally sandstone is found and there are said to be some slight indications of coal. The scenery, especially about Lake Winnebago
