We have repeatedly spoken of the Lake Winnebago region as one of the most inviting portions of the Territory; and the rapid progress of its settlement and improvement, particularly during the past year, is evidence that its advantages are beginning to be more fully known and appreciated. A large body of respectable German immigrants, comprising not far from a hundred families, have located in the northern part of Fond du Lac and southern part of Calumet county, a few miles from the eastern shore of the lake; and the increase in population, production, and trade, of the country here for several miles in extent, has induced an enterprizing land owner, who occupies a central position in the settlements, to lay out a town, which, from its beautiful and eligible location, cannot fail in its growth to realize the sanguine expectations of the proprietor. It is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago, near its southern extremity, on the Calumet prairie,- is called "Calumet Village",- and the plat contains as handsome lots as are to be found in any village in the country. As we mentioned a week or two since, the citizens of this region are now engaged in building a small steam boat for the upper Fox river trade. It is designed by the proprietor of Calumet Village to build a pier for the accomodation of this boat. Sales of quite a number of lots, we are informed, have already been made, and a merchant from the east, it is expected, will establish himself here in the spring. Mechanics, seeking a place for settlement, will find at this point a valuable opening for their business.
