easily jump across it. The celebrated Black Hawk and the Prophet were taken near the Dells on the Wisconsin, after his disasterous defeat at the battle of the Bad Axe, by Dekorie and Chaetar two Winnebagos who had been employed for that purpose by the Indian agent at Prairie du Chien.

Depere rapids, or Rapides des Peres, on the Neenah river six miles above Green Bay being the lowest of the series of rapids that obstruct the navigation of that river. A dam has been built here for hydraulic purposes, to raise the water six feet which covers the rapids next above called the Little Kakalin.
