Dodgeville, a thriving little town in Iowa County six miles north from Mineral Point, being in the midst of the mineral region. It is named in honor of Henry Dodge late Governor of the Territory, who resides three miles south of the village. Some mines are opened and furnaces are in operation in the village; and the mineral "diggings" in the neighbourhood are numerous and valuable, and are among the first [of] that were worked in the country. It has a post office, a store, &c. and numerous dwellings occupied by miners. A company was incorporated in 1836 to construct a rail road from the Mississippi to Belmont, with the privilege of extending it to Dodgeville; but nothing has been done towards constructing the road.
