[Newspaper Clipping-From the Milwaukie Democrat]

Fond du Lac. The population of this county, during the present season, has received many important accessions; the farming interest is rapidly increasing; and in the extent of its agricultural products, Fon du Lac will this year be found second to none of the northern counties. As a grazing region it is not to be excelled, and the raising of stock which is now to a considerable extent engaged in, will doubtless here long be an important and profitable business at this point.

The prairie and timber land in Fond du Lac county is well proportioned; the fertility of the soil has been very satisfactorily tested; and an abundance of good water, in the shape of springs and streams, is to be found in every direction. Healthfulness of climate, too, is among the advantages possessed by this inviting region; and altogether, we are inclined to look upon the district of country in question as presenting inducements more than ordinary to those who are desirous of securing good farming locations in the interior.

By the way, as the trade of the Fond du Lac country is becoming somewhat important, would it not be advisable for the business men of Milwaukie, if they wish to secure this trade, to make movement for the improvement of the road leading to Lake Winnebago? An appropriation from Congress for this object should be strongly solicited at the approaching session.- A judicious expenditure of a few thousand dollars would place the road in a good situation, would induce the settlements of the fine timbered country along its route, and would secure to Milwaukie the best part of the trade of the Lake Winnebago district.
