Iron Creek, a tributary of Lake Superior from the south which enters a short distance east of the mouth of the Bois Brule or Burnt Wood river.

Ithasca Lake (Lack La Biche and Elk Lake) A lake seven miles long and from one to three miles wide forming the true source of the Mississippi river in Latitude forty seven degrees and ten minutes, and longitude ninety five degrees and fifty four minutes west from Greenwich. It is one hundred and sixty five miles above Cass Lake and one thousand and twenty nine miles above the Falls of St. Anthony. The water is deep, very clear and cold and well supplied with fish. It was visited in 1832 by Mr. Schoolcraft and others who were the first white persons who had ever seen the source of the Mississippi. It is described as a beautiful lake of irregular shape, and surrounded by hills covered
