Lac Travers (Pamilchi Gamaug) a lake near the source of the Mississippi river about twelve miles long from north to south, and six or seven broad with elevated shores covered with groves of hard wood trees. It is at the most northerly point of the Mississippi, about forty miles above Cass Lake, and estimated to be fifty feet above its level. From the Lake the ascent of the Mississippi is directly south. It is separated by short channel from a bay or lake of moderate dimensions at its southern extremity.

LaFayette. A town on the Mississippi in Grant County, now united with Van Buren under the name of Potosi which see.
