Lake- this town in1840 contained, agreeably to the United States census of that year 39 horses, 338 meat cattle, 6 sheep, & 693 swine; in 1839 there were produced 1284 bushels of wheat, 26 of barley, 1377 of oats, 5 of rye, 175 of buckwheat [an] 3528 of Indian corn & 32 36 cords of wood were sold mostly to steamboats nvigating Lake Michigan. There were one grist mill and one saw mill.

*Lafayette a town separated from Spring Prairie in Walworth Co, in 1843 embracing the surveyed township No. 3 Range No 17. The village of Elkhorn is situated near the SW corner of this town. It is on the U.S. road about mid way between Janesville and Lake Michigan. Sugar creek passes through the town from west to east. Most of the land consists of oak openings and prairie.

*LaGrange, a town set off in 1843 from Elkhorn in Walworth Co. comprising the surveyed township No. 4 R. 16. Heart & Round prairies are in this town, the remainder of the land consists mostly of oak openings. A group of small lakes occupy the SE part forming head of Honey creek.
