Mauvaise river or Bad river, the Mushkee (Swamp) of the Chippewas a large river entering Lake Superior twelve miles west from the mouth of the Montreal river, 15 miles from LaPointe-Bronson, at a place where the shore of the lake is sandy for several miles each way. Schoolcrafts party ascended this river in canoes one hundred and four miles to a portage connecting it with the Namakagon branch of the St. Croix. It contains permanent rafts of flood wood, and numerous rapids, presenting an ardous ascent, requiring the frequent use of the axe the canoe pole and the carrying strap.

Mauvaise Creek, a stream about nine miles in length in Brown county, running between Beautors & Martins creek into the East Twin River.

Meachaus Prairie. A prairie in Troy Walworth County (town four range seventeen) about five miles long and from one to two in breadth, extending along Honey Creek.
