Milwaukee Township embraces the surveyed township seven and eight in Range twenty two in Milwaukee County. Lake Michigan forms its eastern boundary; the Milwaukee river runs through nearly its whole length from north to south; and the town of Milwaukee is situated near its southern boundary. The north part of the town is but little settled owing to the fact that the lands fall mostly into the hands of non resident speculators, and cannot readily be obtained for the purpose of improvement. In 1840 agreeably to the United States census there were in this town 1 iron foundary, 98 horses, 571 meat cattle, &657 swine; the crops raised were 263 bushels of wheat, 390 of oats, 650 of Indian corn, & 1000 of potatoes; 6560 cords of wood sold to steamboats.
