Patch Diggings-On entered land-Sec 10-T2N-Grant Co.-On head branches of Highland's Creek 5 m S. of Plateville-on w. margin of an extensive prairie. The first discovery of ore here was a "patch about 18 ft wide 3 thick. Blocks of ore of 25,000 pounds raised from this "patch" and 4 men says the Grant Co. Herald raised in one day 45,000 pounds. Discovered in June 1838 much land suitable for agriculture in vicinity, but little occupied. Lead raided 4,226,000 @ 14 pr 100=$59,164.
