Pekatonica (the Muddy Stream) a river which rises [in Iowa County] a few miles west of Mineral Point and running in a south easterly direction across Iowa County, and through the south west corner of Green County, passes into Illinois where it makes a large bend to the south and enters Rock river [only a few] 5 1/2 miles below the state line. It is a sluggish stream remarkable for the number of its short bends, running through a beautiful and romantic valley bordered by high bluffs. It is navigable for small boats from its mouth to the "forks" at Wyota. A company has been incorporated to improve the navigation from Mineral Point to the state line, by means of locks and dams or a canal, which it is supposed can be done at a moderate cost, and thus afford an outlet for the valuable mineral products of this part
