Potawatamie Island-One of the Islands at the entrance of Green Bay, about five miles in diameter, being the largest of the group.

Potosi, a post town at the mouth of Grant river on the Mississippi in Grant county, being the name of the towns of Van Buren and La Fayette United. It is situated in a romantic and picturesque valley with a stream of pure water running through it. This valley is three miles long and varies in breadth from one hundred to three hundred yards; it is known as Van Buren Valley and is not unfrequently called Snake Hollow, from some curious circumstance in its history. La Fayette is situated at the mouth of the valley, on the banks of Grant river, and is the shipping place for a large portion of country around; it was laid out in 1836 when it contained but two houses. In 1840 it numbered four stores, two groceries, two hotels, two tailor shops, two carpenter shops, and about twenty five
