Racine, a town in Racine county embracing the fractional surveyed townships three and four in range twenty three. The village of Racine is near the middle of the town on the Lake shore; Root river runs through it, affording water power and having excellent stone quarries on the rapids-the northern part of the town is heavily timbered. Its population in 1838 was five hundred and thirty four.

Rainy Lake- a large lake resembling the Lake of the Woods in the number and nature of its islands, at the head of Rainy Lake river into which it falls over a ledge of rock twenty five feet high, (Chandiere Falls).
