Sachaw,gan Lake- a lake near the source of the Grand Fork of the Rainy Lake river, from which there is a portage of half a mile to Little Lake, having an outlet into Lake Winnepeck of the Upper Mississippi.

Saco's Tower- a rock 50 ft high 30 ft. base near head of Bad Axe 40 miles from Prairie du Chien.

Saint Anthony (Falls of) a perpendicular fall on the Mississippi river about sixteen or eighteen feet, nine miles above the mouth of the St. Peters river. These falls were visited in 1680 by Hennepin who gave them the name which they now bear. There is a wild and rapid current short distance above the falls, and also below extending nearly to the St. Peters- the whole descent is supposed to be eighty feet-
