St. Francis- See Leaf river- Wicha=niva of the Sioux.

St. Friole (Marasis de) an area of the Mississippi seperating the New from the older parts of the Town of Prairie du Chien.

St. Louis river- a large river which enters Lake Superior at Fond du Lac its most westerly extremity. It is a very crooked river winding its way among rocks which form numerous rapids although it is much traveled in passing from Lake Superior to the Upper Mississippi. At the mouth it is about one hundred and fifty yards wide, immediately above which it [it] expands into a lake five or six miles long and about a mile wide. (see Bronson)
