Sandy Creek, a small tributary of the Mississippi in Grant county, enterint near the south line of town five;- about ten miles in length.

Sandy Island- an island in the Lake of the Woods formed by the sand brought down the Rainy Lake river. It is in Latitude 48.56'4" north.

Sandy Lake- Matawungauk of the Chippewas, one of the sources of the Wisconsin river lying between Lac Vieux Desert and the source of the Brule river of the Menomonee. Its greatest length is about three miles from east to west and it is a little less than a mile in width.

Sandy Lake, a lake with sandy shores near the Mississippi at the entrance of the West Savanna river. It is about five miles long and four miles wide; with an irregular shape having numerous bays and ports, and several islands. - An important trading port is established on this lake. Its Indian name is Ko[m?]n-tong-gog-o-mog; A fort was built here in 1794 by the North West Fur Company, which was occupied in 1806 by Lieut. Pike.
