Skunk Grove an oval shaped tract of woodland in Racine county six miles west from Racine, about two miles long and one and a half miles broad lying in the midst of a large prairie.

Skunk Creek a small branch of Root river in Racine county rising near and running through "Skung Grove".

Smithfield- a place on the Oneida Reservation west of Green Bay.

Snake River- See Kinakic river.

Snake Hollow- See Potosi.

Soaking Mountain (or Montagne qui tempe dams l'eau) A remarkable bluff or island on the Mississippi below mouth of Chippewa about five hundred feet high appearing from a distance to stand in the middle of the stream. A beautiful engraving of this mountain has been published in the New York Mirror- a beautiful and extensive view of the Mississippi and the country around is presented from its top.
