Walworth County is bounded on the north by Jefferson and Milwaukee counties, east by Racine, south by the state of Illinois, and west by Rock county; or north by the north line of town four, east by the east line of range eighteen, south by the state line and west by the west line of range fifteen. It is twenty four miles square or contains five hundred and seventy six square miles or sections. Walworth county was set off from Milwaukee in 1836, and organized as a separate county in 1838. Its population in 1838 was 1019; in 1840 2610; and in 1842-4618. The county seat is Elkhorn. The town system of government os adopted in this county; the towns are "Troy[9], "Spring Prairie" [4], "Elkhorn" [13], "Whitewater" [7], "Richmond" [1], "Darien" [12]. "East Troy", "Walworth" [21], "Delavan" [10], "Sharon", and "Geneva" [3].

This is one of the richest and most important agricultural counties in the Territory, possessing, a rich soil, with about the proper proportion of timber and prairie land to [suit?] the convenience of the first settlers of a new country. It is
