West Twin river, rises in Brown county near the sources of Scarboro creek and running south into [Sheboygan] Manitowoc county nearly parallel with the East Twin, which it joins just before they enter Lake Michigan six miles from the mouth of the Manitowoc. At Neshoto there is a rappid affording water power; and small steamboats might ascend the river to this point eight miles above its mouth.

Wesacota, (or Brule) river that branch of the Menomonee which approaches nearest to Lac Vieux Desert, and forming a part of the boundary between Wisconsin and Michigan. It is one of the principal branches, has a rapid current, and varies in width from eighty to one hundred feet. It has a rocky bed and is generally so shallow as to render it difficult to ascend it with canoes except in times of high water. The banks are thickly studded with white cedar, fir, poplar, tamarack, white birch, and pine, for a great extent. There are two portages or falls about ten miles above its junction with the Menomonee; it rises near Lake Brule. Its name Brule (brunt) is applied by the French in consequence of the timber near its mouth having been destroyed by fire.
