Winnebago County is bounded on the north by Brown county, east by Calumet, south by Fond du Lac, and west by Marquette and Brown counties or, on the south by the north line of range twenty east by the east line of range seventeen extended through Lake Winnebago, south by the south line of town seventeen, and west by the west line of range fourteen. It is twenty four miles square, and contains therefore five hundred and seventy six square miles or sections. Winnebago county was set off from a part of the original county of Brown in 1840 and organized as a separate county in 1842. Its population in 1840 was 135 in 1842-143. The county seat is [blank].
