Racine- A flourishing little town at the mouth of Root river in Racine County- the seat of justice of that county- twenty five miles south of Milwaukee and ten miles north from Southport. It is beautifully situated on a plain elevated about fifty feet above the Lake, on the south side of the river.

It has a number of wooden buildings, including a court home, and a large tavern building. A weekly newspaper. It stands near the southern limit of the country denominated "timber land" and hence is enabled to supply steam boats with fuel. A survey and estimate has been made by Capt.
