DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1789
1789,
June,
28, [Sunday] G.C.T. went to Maj'r Madison's- Reuben & Edm'd Taylor went home after breakfast. a very little rain.
29, Hub'd & Reuben Taylor breakfasted here, I went w'th them to Dade's Mill where several neighbors met to fish, on the shore- caught only a few fish. Had plenty Bacon &c & Spirits- My father staid at home & delivered Jos Griffey 40 Bus' Wheat to carry to F.Maury. Replanted Cucumber seed in Garden. Very dry weather
30, G.Taylor went to Rob't Taylor's, came to Uncle Taylor's and dined- G.C.T. went to C.Taylor's & got bled for his cold- I dined at home.
July,
1, Very windy & dry in evening, a little rain but scarce laid the dust. I walked to School house & ret't to dinner- G.C.T. went to J. & C.Taylor's
2, M.Perry had a Bus' Wheat. G.C.T. went to C.T's-
3, Colby Taylor sick & staid at home, gave him salts. G.C.T. dined at Reu Taylor's Capt Dade's Frank brought a Gridiron here this morning for which I paid him 3/-
4, Dicky, Colby & I went down the run a fishing, we caught but few- C.Taylor dined here- G.Taylor brought some lasting & Jeans from Co't house, expect for Thompson's order on H.Mitchell-
5, [Sunday] About rain enough in last night to lay the dust. Our family dined at J.Taylor's. H.Pendleton jr there. A slight shower in evening laid the dust.
6, Some rain last night-planted Beans in Garden. Went to Mr.Shepherd's, p'd him 7 1/2 for things Sebree brought. George brought home thingssent G.T. by F.Maury-
7, Reaping wheat yesterday& to-day- Yesterday morning M.Perry planted some Tobacco- I rode today to A.Holmes's & left paterns for Jacket & Breeches for him to make-
8, I walked to Mr.Shepherd's store and bought 2 wash bowls- H.Taylor was there & told me J.Gordon had been to view his land, when I returned Reu Taylor was here & staid till evening. I went to Capt Burnley's to get Mrs Burnley to make me a linen Coat, but she being busy could not do it- Capt Burnley from home. a few drops rain fell about noon-
9, M.Perry finished securing wheat- I went with G.C.T. to C.Taylor's, he was from home, we dined there- after dinner came by J.Taylor's. G.Taylor, having sore leg staid at home- Had some Turnep seed sown in th epen amongst the vines.
10, I walked to Court house, got *Doolin to cut out a linen Coat & Breeches, paid him for it 2/1 1/2. G.C.T. dined at Reuben Taylor's. I sent the things cut out to *Sister C.Taylor to get them made. [Note Spelling of same name= Doolin, Doulin, Dowlin and Dowling, in several places] [Mrs.Charles Taylor]
11, I went to J.Taylor's to breakfast & went to Dade's mill with him, J.Taylor jr & H.Pendleton, fishing but the river bring muddy we caught only a few-G.C.T. went to the Mill & we ret'd & dined at J.Taylor's-
12, Uncle E.Taylor, J.Glassell, James, Chas. & Reuben Taylor dined here, G.C.T. went with J.Taylor jr & H.Pendleton to Col J.Barbour's- M.Perry brought me a pair breeches made by A.Holmes --[Sunday]--
13, Staid at home, cloudy, slight shower of rain. Sowed Parsley in Garden, also Turnep in S.W.Square.
14, C.Taylor went to Rob't Taylor's and dined. Capt Burnley dined here, I walked with him to C.Taylor's and went home with him. He took Three Bee hives. Dicky & Colby went with us & ret'd at Dark.
15, Went with G.Taylor & dined at J.Taylor's. C.Taylor's wife & Miss M.Conway there The young men ret'd from Col.Barbour's. Very cool yesterday & now fro the season-
16, Scattered Turnep seed in Cornfield next the house. C.Taylor dined at Maj'r Lees G.C.T. at C.Taylor's. Col.Hoomes came by F.C from Kentucky, called at H.Taylor's- Very cool & very dry-
17, G.Taylor sent to Mr Shepherd's & got 2 Butter pots. Took the 2 old bee hives at night, not more than 2 or 3 gallons in both.
18, J.Taylor came here, G.Taylor & I went with him to Rubbard Taylor's & with C.Taylor dined there. G.C.T. dined at Reu Taylor's & they came to H.Taylor's after dinner, Clouds & a few drops of rain.
