563 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 3 1888 street in the City of Seattle from Depot Street to Union Street Bell Street Ordered that a tax of four hundred and ninety eight (498) mills on each and every dollar of the assessed valuation of all the property included within the assessment district created by Ordinance No 917 be and the same hereby is levied on siad property for the purpose of paying for the improvement of Bell Street in the City of Seattle from fifth Street to Seventh Street. Ordinances 978 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance to provide for the issuance of bonds by the City of Seattle payable out of Street Improvement funds, in payment for street improvements and for the transfer of moneys received from licenses from the general fund to Street Improvement funds for the payment if interest on such bonds and for the re-imbursing of the general funds from such street improvement funds" which is passed by the following vote viz: In favor of the same Burns, Durie, Jones, McCombs, McDonald, Niesz & Rietze. Against the same none. 979 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Clerk entitled "A Special Ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills" which is passed by the following vote viz: In favor of the same Burns, Durie, Jones, McCombs, McDonald, Niesz & Rietze. Against the same none. Seventh Street grade Orderd that the City Attorney notify the bondsmen of the contractor on Seventh Street from Madison to Battery Street to complete the grading of said street at once. 592 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Aug 31 1888 Ordered that the Purchasing Agent be authorized to procure the necessary furniture of Police Headquarters to include an Telephone. Ordered that the matter of furnishing the Police Forse withuniforms be referred toFinance Committee. Ordered that the Purchasing Agent be instructed to procure signs to be placed under the direction of the Chief of Police. Supplemental plat of Blk 8 D T Denny's 2nd Addn referred to Street Com and City Attorney. And not the Council proceeds to examine and equlize the assessment roll of the year 1888 and the following changes are made to wit: School Block No 49 Terry's 1st Addition is stricken from the roll. Ordered that Block 55 Maynard's addn be stricken from the roll the same being property of the Sisters of Charity Ordinances The City Attorney submits an ordinance entitled "An Ordinance to prohibit the distribution of doger circulars, pamphlets and other advertising mediums and the sweeping or depositing of paper and other rubbish upon the streets and sidewalks of the City of Seattle" Which is passed by the following vote, in favor of same Durie, Green, Jones, McCombs, McDonald Niesz & Rietze. Against same none. The matter of Jno Crist's Mill Street property isreferred to Street Comittee.

678 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Dec 12 1888 rules for inspection of vessels and trains coming into the City. After discussion by the Council on motion of Councilman Nietz the whole matter is referred to the Commitee on Health & Police in conjunction with the Health Officer with full power to to act. On motion of Councilman Rietze Chairman of the Committee on Public buildings and Grounds the plans and specifications for a temporary Hook & Ladder truck house, as submitted by him are approved and the clerk directed to advertise for bids for the construction of the same. On motion of Councilman Nietz the City Treasurer is instructed to make a small payment on each of the outstanding Street Improvement warrants now about to become void by reason of the Statute of limitations as fast as the same are presented to him. On motion of Councilman Durie the matter of all delinquent street grade assessments is left in the hands of the City Attorney and Finance Committee, with power to settle such cases as the may deem advisable. On motion of Councilman Green, the City Surveyor is directed to submit a grade for Front, Mill & Commercial Streets the said grade to admit of basements and sewers above high tide.
