Saturday 14th Jany 1843. The weather since X has been quite changeable some very cold days. Sunday 15th the weather moderated now warm.

16th warm. 17th warm. 18th warm. 19th warm. 20th warm. 21st Still warm, from 10th to 15th Jany sowed the two Plant Beds on Branch above House.

20th Burnt & Sewed one Plant Bed in new ground. Began to Plow for corn 17th Jan'y. Began to mall Rails about middle Jany finished cutting down new ground, 16th Jany.

21st alse been sick one day. Bled her.

25th Fine weather yet, Sandy & Lowry both taken sick also Clementina.

27th Henry sick on the House — Morris & Jane also sick — still plowing for corn & malling. Mark Lain Hewed Plates for Kitchen Have 5 lambs to this date.

30th Jany 18423 Lowry very sick & Doct Thompson here to see him. He came to see me. Morris died. I think every when I was sick for one week & [ached?] to see Jacob last fall & This day snowing. Wednesday 1st Febry snowed very little warmed to rain & then turned off very cold. lowry a little better & Jane sick. Morris taken sick & Died about dark, dont know what was the matter with him.

2nd Morris Burried. Doct T. here again 1st & 2nd clear & tremendous cold.

3rd moderated a little. Cutting & malling up dry wood. 4th began to snow & Rain in morning. whether weather quite moderate some snow on ground. 5th

1864 Sept 5.6. Rained last night in the day We made pond at Still & dug it out to make water run in Tub to still Several from old place came & helped all day I am starting to machine to get wool corded again, did not get it Halled up apples & finished Toba[cco] got 1 Turn corn from Plantation

7 Fixed still up to day & Pond & stilled one still full for myself mashing apples etc —

9 stilling & worming Tobacco pressing out cider fixed up still this week Stilling for old place doubled 2 times for Est JDH toll to come out

10th Began to pull fodder Gathered Peas this evening went to meeting

14th Sent Henry to Plantation to see about trashing Oats for Govment Pulling fodder Tying up etc Stacked up 1 stack, stilling most of this week, Large dark Bay Horse Mr Whitehead bot has come home priced $500, said to be 5 or 6 yrs old

1864 Richd Whitehead came home this 23rd

Oct. 24th Sewed 2 Bushels Wheat this day

25th Fanned out wheat, Duged our Irish Potatoes, & cutting corn to sew wheat

27 Sewing wheat cutting down corn Halling 3 Loads wood Carried Fan home to day

Nov 4 Since 25th Oct we have good wood Sewed wheat gathered Lot corn Rained 2 days Killed 1 Beef weighing 452 lbs Davy a steer. Jorden been up here today We have lost 1 of our sheep here & 1 at plantation in the coarse[course] of one week past.

Nov 7th Finished Seeding wheat hear[here] last Saturday evening – getting out Peas to day & expect to send to the Mill sometimes Sat.

8 John Richard Whitehead started this morning Cloudy & like for rain Putting away our Greens Bybee Starts to Danville with 2 Yankee prisoners caught by T. J. Monroe.

14th The last week I went to Danville Card Bill to go to Army as Teamster or cook agreeable to call of Genl Lee. Sold Peas onions Brandy for Est. & my toll. Potatoes etc they cut Halled wood at home while we were gone.

1864 Novr 13 began to get up corn at home till Tuesday night I am sick this evening

16 Let all go to meeting to worship God under President Davis's request None scarcly went I was sick at home

17 Halling up & shucking corn my Pigs all up now 21 in number 3 sows & 1 Boar & 12 in Pen for meat here & 7 at Plantation

18 Halling & shucking corn began to rain in evening, not quite done Halling up my 21 pigs has damaged my corn very much cut up piney old field new ground

21st Novr. 1864 Our son Jerry got home last night in the night was gone upwards of 9 mos & a prisoner at ptLook Out & Elmira[?], ever since May last — Raining all night & day & continues Lucy C Steptoe come with Jacob

22nd Cleared Sent Mr Hurts mules homeoff. Sent Lowry to MillMillers with 2 Turns 5 Bus corn for meal 1 Bushel Keens Mill dam broke yesterdayWheat for me & 2 Bags cotton to pick 53 lbs & 49 lbs making 102 lbs Balance. Getting up our corn to day

1865 Jany 10th. Gave Judy 8 Beef for 12 days. Raining hard Raining all day & Thundered several times. Water coarses[courses] high.

13th Jere H Graves started to the Army this morning down to clover Henry with him. Big Henry gone after Tob. blade fodder to James Roarks for Susan Roarks for which halling she is to weave 6 yds Cloth Nice, Cloudy & like for rain to night Halled oats with waggon from A J Lewis's for Mr J R Whitehead, the 12th Inst

15. Sent upwards of 40 lbs Beef to Plantation for 1 month from this day. I went court.

17 Halling wood 2 Teams Henry & Milly Ann cutting

18 Jacob has been gone ever since last Thursday to hall flour to Danville. One of my mules gone with the team 1 week to day gone 6 days come back Thursday Went to mill to day 1 Barl. Corn

21st Raining & freesing last night & to day Engaged John J Lain to live with me at Aspen Grove this year & to move as soon as it [farrs?] off.
