& forward it to T C Green of Richmond have started my acct with him & have got to see Wm H Waller yet all of which must be arranged this week & sent to Richmond, my son Jerry has been at home for about a month & started to the army on Tuesday last & that day the snow fell about 10 or 15 Inches deep I was at the CH till wednesday, I got home friday & Jerry started again this morning 26th March Come back last Wednesday on acct of the weather, to day the weather is 26th Sunday very pretty & snow nearly gone – & moderate Pride & Doran started to school to Mr Boyd the 7th March 1864 the 1st week they only went about 2 or 3 days the next they went nearly all the week & the last week before the 29th they only went Monday & Tuesday & it snowed Tuesday this day week &

29th Raining & we are striping Tobacco here sold Henry a Pig for $15.

april 1 Pride & Doran went to school 2 days this week the weather very wet & bad —

1849 June 12th Went to S. S. M H. to try Thos East for stealing Stephen Redgrages oats. got clear from evidence, - Plowed Peas & corn Plowed drillcorn second time by middle barn, & below Plum bushes Weeding drill corn next to orchard - Cloudy damp weather -

13. Plowed out Garden Sweet Potatoes cotton Irish Potatoes, begun to lay for tobaccoof[f] Lot. weeding & Plowed fresh ground next to orchard

14. Beding Lot this & thining drillJust Plowed corn

15. Finished Planting Tobacco & Replanted all new ground & little second yrs ground weather warm & moist - Working cotton & branch corn to day Plowing & weeding. Finished weeding cotton this 12 oclock & gone on branch Hot weather about this time —

16 Rained a little last evening. Weeding & resetting corn on Branch where missing. Planting watermellons simblingPumpkins Potatoes setting out some Beet, Turnip, screan the seed of which Mr Tucker said came from DenmarkDenmark

17 Fine clear weather, Finished yesterday weeding out Branch. Corn, not quite done weeding corn yet. began to Plow Hill next to orchard, second time also next to 18woods by middle Barn, replanting corn on 19. Branch Lower part, - done weeding & Plowing our corn second time one this side branch & began second time on the other side branch runing 4 Plows, weeding or Hilling up Sweet Potatoes etc - clear weather nights cool, great talk of mad Dogs this Spring. cholera about very much this Spring Mr C. A Hunt Died of it at Independence Mo. on his way to California, - its now in Richmond Va Extra session Legislature moved toto finishFauquier Cty

1854 Novr 11th Mr David P. Miller Our Neighbour, Died on Wednesday evening the 8th Inst after being Sick nearly 2 weeks & His Sister Mary Died about a week or 10 Ten days before him - I set up with him the night after he Died very desconsolate family - broke off about 11 Oclock to day My Leg is getting better, & has been Sore ever Since the middle or 20 Octo Hurt at the Sell of the Stable Doors = My Father property including negroes Was Sold on the 7 & 8th of Novr 1854 except that Portion for my Mothers Dower & the Land- the Land my Father Willed to my Bro. James at $20 pr acre, Due Nov Mr James M Fitzgerald I authorised & Requested to go to the Sale etc I Sent Mr Fitzgerald & Fanny down to Clover Depot on Monday the 30th on their way to Richmond Louisa & Orange & Henry got back the next day 31st & Pompey has been Lame ever Since — & they & Cate is expected Home tomorrow

14th Bro. George Graves here came last Saturday from Alabama on his way to Orange has not been in Orange for 20 yrs Henry Halling wood. balance pulling away our Cabbage etc ground very wet & Cold, wind from N E etc George & Jerry gone up to Mr Fitzgeralds to See If they have returned from orange & Louisa

20th Geo Graves started from here this morning Stayed 1 week & 2 days Fanny Cate & Mr F. got Home Thursday & came down here Friday & Fanny W taken sick that night & this is the

1855 april 27th not quite done Halling out manure putting ashes Plaster etc on Plant Beds etc Jordan gone to mill this morning after meal coltering & Hilling at stony point

2nd May 1855 We have been hilling second yrs Land at stony pint Coltering at Johns branch & laying off Prized Two Hoghd Lugs nearly done, all the Lugs - manured Plant Beds except on Mountain,= expect to finish at Stony pint to day –

4 Fine Rain, Sold T W anderson my Crop Tobacco made 1854 for $8½ Round; 2 Hdds Lugs prized & delrd, the weights we are to be governed by in Richd, – Hilling on Johns Branch, Card 2 Hhd Lugs to Riceville yesterday Fed sho[e] mending for Mary Hunt, taking down all our Second quality Tobacco this morning, Beding for Cotton etc etc

5 Bedding & Planting Cotton Irish Potatoe Patch by spring, Peas water mellons Pump kin Patch Cucumbers musmelons cucumber etc Hilling on Johns branch Beding on Branch for Tobacco quite Cool this night, uncovered our Plant Beds, etc ¬– Planted 2 squares Greens etc etc Halled up last stack Oats –

12- Finished Hilling on Friday & Began to Plow & weeding Corn done weeding & Plowing all the flat Land went to Lynchg past week Mr Fitzgerald done to Richmd to see a Doctor on a/c of his situation

14 Plowing & weeding corn & replanting as as we go, very dry weather Corn & every thing comes up badly –

1855 Oct 1st Smart Frost last night & [illegible?] & Finished stacking Tops to Day & Cutting Tobacco yesterday Sunday we had to Cut Filled & Cured 3 Houses with nearly 5 Thousand stacks in them lost 2 of our Cattle & 2 more sick with distemper

11 Finished Housing Tobacco & Hanging this day Firing tobacco shining Bull Died in my field, fixing to Raise shoe makers shop & corn House & cutting wood at Barn etc

12th went to see Mr Fitzgerald & Riceville this day yesterday Election for Commr Atto. quite cool this morning Did not rain last night after we thought it would

23 been to Lynchg Sold wheat for $1.95 got Ton Guano from Richmond got Sugar molasses & Carpet[?] etc Cutting & Stacking Corn Raised corn House Rose one of our milch cows Died yesterday sewing wheat Just commenced etc Mr Evans came yesterday to finish ditching went to see Bro. Dews last Sunday

24 Rained to day began to strip Tobacco in new prize Barn, Fed making my wife a pair of shoes etc —

Novr 3rd 1855 Quite warm cloudy weather Firing Tobacco not quite done Sewing wheat.- sewed Tobacco Land above house not quite finished that ps Cutting down & halling stacks Right side path by middle barn for wheat got up the Corn this week –

10 Finished Seeding wheat getting out Cotton Shoemaking Cutting Stalks Sent yesterday to Yates mill 8 Bus corn for meal & 6 Bus wheat for flour & got home 1 Bus meal
