(All communications should be addressed to "THE LIGHT-HOUSE BOARD.") Treasure Department, Office of the Light-House Board Washington, D.C., Sept. 2, 1899.

The Honorable, The Secretary of the Treasury. Sir: Referring to a letter from the Engineer of the 13th Light-House District of 26 Aug., '99, the board has the honor to state that it is necessary to make repairs and install a heater at the Yaquina Head, Oreg., Light-Station.

It is estimated that this work can be done at a total cost of $850 to be paid from funds allotted from the appropriation Repairs and Incidental Expenses of Light-Houses, 1900.

Authority is therefore asked to make repairs and install a heater at the before named Light-Station at a total estimated cost of $850, the work to be done under the direction of the Board by persons in its employ and by the purchase of the necessary materials, excepting the heater, of the lowest bidder after due advertisement in accordance with existing regulations, that

Yaquina Light Station Appointment of Officer in Charge as Inspector of Customs

Sir:

Enclosed herewith I send you a copy of a letter from the Honorable the Secretary of the Treasury dated January 30th, 1875, asking whether any objection exists to the appointment or assignment to duty of the officer, now under direction of the Light-House Board, who is in charge of this LightHouse property at Yaquina, as Inspector of Customs. I also enclose an extract from the report of Special Agent Goddard of the Treasury Department in which the same matter is referred to. In this connection you are requested

Sir:

Enclosed herewith you will find a copy of a letter from the Honorable the Secretary of the Treasury, dated October 5th, by which the Board is authorized to pay Mr. R.A. Bensall, at a rate not to exceed $600 per annum for his services while in charge of the Light-House property at Yaquina Bay, Oregon. In accordance with this authority you are authorized to make the payment in question from the appropriation for salaries of Light-House Keepers. Funds for this purpose will be sent you. Please refer to this letter, by date, on the voucher, as your authority for making the payment.

Referring to your letter of 12 Oct. '88, regarding the Yaquina Bay, Oreg. light-house reservation, under authority granted by the Honorable, the Secretary of the Treasury in his letter of 24 Oct.
