hw0068 Howitt to Editor of Academy 30 November 1906

To the Editor of the Academy

I regret the necessity for renewing thiscorrespondence. Mr Lang in his letter whichappeared in your issue of the 13th October, has gone off on a small issue of a misplacedcomma, altogether disregarding the moreserious issue raised by my question as to thefour selected parts, of my summary, whichhe rearranged and termed "a passage fromMr Howitt" (Secret of the Totem p. 197)

It seems to me that it would be wellfor Mr Lang's credit if he replied to myquestion, because that so called "passage", onthe face of it, carried an unpleasant suggestion of manipulation, for it wasused as the grounds for [charging - crossed out] a charge against me of[with -crossed out] overlooking my own facts. (Secret of theTotem p. 199)

I remain Siryours faithfullyA W HowittMetung Victoria28 November 1906
