Dear Madam,

Your letter received with regards to enquiries to native meaning of particular words, unfortunately some of these cannot be obtained, but for your information listed hereunder are the ones we have been able to find out.

Kin Kin - Small Water Hole Coondoo - Bark Humpy Boreen - Fire Place

Cherbourg -originally this Settlement was called Barambah the meaning of which is Wind.

To the best of aboriginal knowledge Cherbourg is not an aboriginal name.

Relative to:- List of places having aboriginal names, together with the meaning of aboriginal word. Referred to in attached correspondence.

Sir.

I beg to report,that I made arrangements with The Superintendent,Barambah Aboriginal Settlement to,have a number of aboriginals sent into Murgon for the purpose of being interviewed by me with a view of obtaining a list of the places in your District and other districts having aboriginal names, together with the meaning of the aboriginal words.

On the 18th.and 19th.instants I interviewed fourteen (14) old aboriginals namely:- Booubyjan Cabbo and Freddy Beckett natives of Barambah, Andrew Ball, native of Yandina, Tommy Croydon, native of Mitchell, Bert Brown, native of Richmond, Dick Normanton, native of Normanton, Prince Davey ,native of Cardwell, Harry Ross, native of Coen, Peter Jackson, native of Cooktown, Tom Conlen, native of Thargomindah, Luke Dun, native of Warrego, George Murray, native of Roma, Jimmy Flourbag, native of Clermont, and Jimmy Edwards, native of Ipswich. Attached hereto is a list of the xxxxxx aboriginal names of places, name of Tribe, meaning of word, which could be ilicited from them by me.
