In reply to your communication of the 11th instant, you are advised as follows:-
(1) "Karilpa" is correct spelling. It means "I am going".
(2) "TANINBLA" means "Standing with it".
(3) If spelt "GANILBA" [spelling has been amended to the word "Ganilba"] means "Taking it home."

The Superintendent, Cherbourg Settlement, via MURGON.
The Brisbane City Council intends to name a street "Taninbla" but before doing so desires to know the aboriginal meaning of this word.
There are also two spellings to the word "Kurilpa", the other way being "Karilpa" and as this is said to be an aboriginal word the Council would appreciate advice indicating the correct spelling.
Kindly interview some of the Cherbourg natives and reply by return mail.
Director of Native Affairs
