The Deputy Director Department of Native Affairs BRISBANE.

Your reference 1A/230

I have your letter of the 17th inst and advise natives tell me "Murra Wombi" means "Hang up (or fasten) up there" any object the instructed might have in his possession.

Your memorandum was not received until the 23rd inst, and I was unable to reply before Christmas.

Enquiry has been received in this Office for the meaning of the word "Murra Wombi". It would be appreciated if you could enquire from some of the Cherbourg natives and advise if possible before Christmas.
