29.80. Menu. 83 I have had Dr. Morris's poney to ride now & then in the evening the day spent in reading eating sleeping. This morning at six left for Kyouk Phyoo. took the passage between the Barouges but encountering a heavy sea & severe squall at the entrance to Cambermere Bay we put back & took the passage through the Creeks.

Augt. 11th. 1858.

During the last three day[s] we have been on the passage through the Creeks we passed through great forests > & hills of jungle. Mrs Cales Leut Yuniam Dr. Morris & Mr Bisehat & [being struck through] Mr Johnson being passengers. today we anchored in Kyouk Phyoo harbour & fired a gun.

we put back & anchored in Kyauk Phyoo at 9 0clock in the evening an earthquake occurred the particulars of which I must duly chronicle, [in it struck through]] the first suspicious indications of there being some convulsion about to place was that given by the barometer which as the weather was threatening was frequently referred to the mercury jumped a good deal & Mr. Johnston reported having ob served the slow wave at the entrance to Kyauk Phyoo harbour instead however of the atmosphere having that closeness & oppresivness usually said to precede an earthquake the rain was incessant accompanied with some wind. completely undermined Capt. Ripley Capt. Evans houses were in undulatory motion & they were obliged to hold on to prevent themselves being thrown down. the Cachery is in ruins every wall being more or less damaged

remained at anchour all day in Kyauk Phyoo harbour the weather being thick & squally. In the evening went ashore with the Captain walked round the Bazaar & up to Capt. Ripley's (in the Morning we had called at Capt. Evans met Dr. Morris). went from Ripley's to Evans. Met Ripley Evans, Bowen Johnstone Cassiagn Morris & Sambo[underlined] Thomas. chafed Sambo about electricity. Songs sung all round. Bischas sing

some very fine french songs. Rested a little after 12 & got on board at 1/2 past 12. Johnson in a wax about being told that Sambo said he was a heavy handed sinner.

August 26th. 1858.

This morning weighed anchor at 5 oclock & left Kyauk Phyoo we had some heavy rolling crossing Cambermere Bay, three seas crossing in different directions. Mrs. Eales very seasick on the passage. Baby much better after 2 days severe illness. had a fine day for the passage it was very warm in passing between the Barningas Anchored in Akyab Harbour a little after three in the afternoon. Went ashore with Dibbs in the eveg. Called at Capt. Eales & Harpers Capt. asked me to dine but

hatching at night. Where I woke up early in the morning with my neck nearly broken. Last evening a fire broke out at Haliday's Coal godwin. Dibbs & the Crew went with the fire engine Young Law & I remaining on board in the evening overhauled some of my home letters from Fred. RB &ce found an ivy leaf in Freds last letter which I had not before noticed. 17th Today we are all put to rights again the gun room all clean & paint dry. Up early % took a bath. A fine day. weather not quite so warm as it was a few days ago, leading the Knight of Glomie Sept. 26.[7 overwritten] Left Akyab yesterday again for Kyauk Phyoo had a fine day though rather warm. Came to anchor at 5 in Kyauk Phyoo harbour
