Friday Decr. 31st. 1858
Called at Ripley's with Bowen & Dibbs last night asked to dinner today and tomorrow. Sat reading High lands & Islands of Scotland all day Ripley & Evans came on bd. went up & dined with Ripley. Met Ripley Evans Johnson Frenchman Young Morris Cassagne had a good dinner Sat Singing verse all round brought in the New Year 3 Cheers at 12 ocl. Sang Auld Lang Syne & drank to the health of Absent friends went om bd. with Bowen & Cassiagni about 1 ocl.

New Years Day 1859
Jany. 1st/59 Up between 6 & 7 oclock firing the 32 pounder on deck. Shot nearly reached Coast opposite to kyauk Phyoo fired 5 shots. Evans came on bd. in Uniform Solah Topi. Cassiagni making coffee before breakfast in the Table breakfastes at 1/2 past 9 on wing & leg of a duck. Eggs Bacon Rice & 2 boiled Eggs 1/2 glass Beer thus few written at 10.20 after breakfast remained on bd. all day chatting to Dr. Pettayal Mrs. P. Mrs. Eales. Went on shore about 1/2 past 5 with Dibbs called to Law Thomas wen to the Circuit Bungalow Met Ripley getting ready for the large dinner. Went to Ripley's house Evans Morris & Johnson came with Frenchman & Young. went over to Circuit Bungalow to dinner between 6 & 7. large Party. Major Vemer & Mrs. Dr. Pettayal & Ms. Pettayal Capt. & Mrs. Eales

Jany 2nd. 1859 Sunday
Started a little before 6 this morning for Sandoway towing the Commissioner's Schooner. Dr & Mrs. Pettayal & Mrs. Eales on bd. Mr. Young left in a native boat at the three brothers about 7 ocl. got through the wine pipe safely without grounding or smashing trees. passed the Mount at 1/2 past 12 ocl. very earm day. entered Sandoway river between 5 & 6 ocl. Anchored at Sing Gong & cast off the Schooner Capt. went on bd. to see the Comr. Schooner pro- ceeded up [struck through:to] near to Sandoway

at Ramree
with Capt. & Mrs. Eales to visit Mrs. Verner in the Schooner. Bowen went up in the jolly after breakfast. returned between 6 & 7 having shot a quantity of Snipe & Curlew brought 11 ducks from Ramree. Capt. & Mrs. E returned about 9 bringing word that the Schooner was to come down this evening & that we are shortly to leave for Akyab.
Thursday Jany. 27th. 1859
Up at 7. Schooner came down this mg. to start at 9 ocl for Kyouk Phyoo. Arrived at Kyouk Phyoo at 3 ocl. Capt Ripley came aboard asked us to dinner. Letters from home & Fred with newspapers from my father Jessie Mary all well. Fred's contained news of poor Sophys death (New Scotsman) containing (earth quake in Anacau). Went in the evening & dined with Ripley Bowen Dibbs Johnson Young there

Friday Jany. 28th. 1859
Looking out daily for the Arrival of the "Nemesis" reported she was to leave Calcutta on the 21st. re- mained on bd. all day went ashore with Young Law in the afternoon bought some Burmah boxes in the Bazaar. 31 Rupee.
Saturday Jany. 29th. 1859
Capt. Bowen Capt. Ripley went on a shooting xcursion this mg. in Ripleys boat. Mrs. Eales went to spend the day with Mrs. Verner. on our arrival in Kyouk Phyoo found Evans had gone to Akyab. 12 ocl Sighted the Nemesis [written above: fired a gun to bring Captn. back] Coming to [written above: be] our releif. Came into the harbour between 2 & 3. Dibbs & I went on bd. Saw Capt Goodwin Johnson introduced to Dr. Maynood brother of him in the Sydney Went to the Capts Cabin had a glass
