Your letter of the 25 July ultimo is now before me,- unfortunately at the time of the arrival of your letter I was absent from home, otherwise Ishould have been myself the honor of replying immeadiately on the receipt of your letter thereof of the same - Imost heartily concur with you, that the Indian aggressors must ought to make restitution to Mr McNable, for the damage they have done him, and ^you may assure yourself that Ishall take the earliest measures to have the same affected- and also that they give a satisfactory explanation for the daring insult offered to the Citizens of our Government

Dear Sir
I have lately Heard that James R. McMeans Esqr intends Resigning his appointment as Solicitor of this District, shou'd he Resign, I Recommend Mr James Scoott to fill his place believ =ing him to be sufficiently quallifyed [sic] to fill that appointment, he is also a young man in good standing in this neighbourhood &c. upon my arrival home from Murfreesborough I found my family in good Health & am Dr Sir your friend as usual &c
