State of Tennessee SS:

I James Scott Solicitor Genl pro: tem: of the 12th Solicitorial of this State and prosecuting on be=half of the State do hereby certify and make known that John B. Phelps was convicted of Horse Stealing at the September Term 1821 of the Circuit Court for said County by a Jury of his country and the judgement of the Court agreeable to law for an Offence of that Kind was pronounced against him to the following effect - that sd Phelps be remanded to [close?] prison, there to remain untill [sic] the expiration of six months from and after the [rise?] of said County, that he be brought out on three several days to wit, On the 16th, 17th, & 18th October next on each day to remain two hours in the pillory, and on the 18th October aforesaid to be given twenty lashes on the bare back be branded with H.T. on the brawn of the right thumb; thence to be remanded to [close?] pris-on [illegible] he [came?] untill [sic] the expiration of the aforesaid six months and pay the [illegible] of the prosecution. - Given under my hand &c. September 18.th 1821. James Scott
