V Salkad Ancient Salchu seems to have been completely destroyed in the Middle Ages in the building of the great castle and the mosque. If any of the ancient buildings buildings survived this period, they have been torn down in the construction of the modern town. The castle and the mosque are constructed entirely of ancient material, both contain many inscriptions and many details of architecture. It is interesting to find there are more fragments of Nabataean architecture than of the classic architecture of Rome. The most important among these are 2 capitals, like those of the temple at Sîʿ in the entrance to the castle, 2 cap's like the inscribed Nabataean capital in Sawet il-Khidi and fragments of the jambs and lintels of portals some in the castle and some in the wall of a house about halfway up to the castle on the E. Slope.
It would seem as if Greco-Roman art did not extend as far as Sulcha. Although it flourished at il-Mushennef and as near as Būsân .
