A meeting of the subscribers towards the foundation of a Women's Medical College in Kingston for the purpose of organization was held in the City Hall on 25th June 1883.

Mr. Wm Harty was asked to take the chair.

Moved by A. P. Knight seconded by R. V. Rogers That there shall be fourteen provisional trustees of the Kingston Women's Medical College, at least five of whom shall be ladies [underline] Carried [/underline]

Moved by Dr. Grant and seconded by E. J. B. Pense. That it shall be the duty of the provisional trustees to appoint their own Officers and also a staff for the said College, to obtain incorporation and attend to all other matters connected with the organization of the Institution that may be found necessary. [underline] Carried [/underline]

Moved by Mr R. V. Rogers and seconded by Mr Rose that the meeting now proceed to ballot for Provisional Trustees and that Messrs Knight and Pense be appointed to act as scrutineers for the purposes of the ballot. [underline] Carried [/underline]

After counting the ballots the following were declared Elected Provisional Trustees.

A. P. Knight, J. Carruthers, E. J. B. Pense, H Folger, Hon G A Kirkpatrick Sir R J. Cartwright, W Harty A Green, R. V. Rogers, Mrs Wm Trout Mrs Britton, Mrs W. Harty, Mrs Dickson and Miss Gildersleeve

Moved by R. V. Rogers and seconded by Dr Spencer that Dr Knight be requested to notify the gentlemen who have been appointed Trustees and call them to their first meeting to be held in the Council Chamber on Monday evening the 16th at 8 o'clock. Carried The meeting then adjourned Wm Harty Vice Chairman

The first regular meeting of the Provisional Trustees of the Women's Medical College of Kingston was held this evening

Present Messrs E. J. B. Pense. R. V. Rogers A. P. Knight Wm Harty. Mrs Dickson & Miss Gildersleeve Mr Harty was asked to take the chair.

Moved by E. J. B. Pense and seconded by A P Knight that Wm Harty be chairman of the board of Trustees.

Wm Harty suggested and urged that Hon. Sir Richard Cartwright be Chairman

Accordingly it was moved by Mr Pense and seconded by A. P. Knight that Hon. Sir Richard

Cartwright - the Chairman of the Board and Wm Harty Vice-chairman. Carried

Moved by R. V. Rogers and seconded by E.J.B. Pierce that A.P. Knight be Registrar of the College. (Carried) His duties shall be to collect fees, register names of students collect subscriptions, pay salaries of officials at stated times, conduct correspondence and write the minutes of the meetings of the Board Carried

Moved by A.P. Knight and seconded by R.V. Rogers that Dr Lavell be President and Dean of the Faculty of the Kingston Women's Medical College at a salary of Three Hundred dollars per annum and that his appointment be conditioned upon his giving his whole professional attention to the position Carried

Resolved that the following names be submitted to the Dean as those of gentlemen qualified to act Professors in the College and that the question of their appointment be reported on at the next meeting of the Board.

Dr. Sullivan, Dr Saunders, Dr Irwin, Dr Henderson Dr Garrett, Dr Phelan, Dr Beth

The board was of opinion that the three final students should all be appointed Demonstrators of Anatomy.

Resolved that the Vice-chairman. Dr Pense Dr. R.V. Rogers. Dr Gunn & Dr Kirkpatrick. & Sir Richard Cartwright be appointed a committee to wait upon the City Council at its next meeting and ask for the use of

rooms in the City Building and for the sum of three hundred dollars with which to furnish these

Resolved that Mr Rogers be instructed to take all necessary steps for procuring a charter as soon as possible

Resolved that the Board meet again on Thursday evening next at 8 P.M.

At the Second Meeting there were present Sir R.J. Cartwright, W Harty, EJB Pense, Mrs Dickson & Miss Gildersleeve.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted.

Dr Lavell stated that he would not undertake the Duties of Dean & President on condition of serving relations with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Kingston, as it would lead to inconvenience in the Staff of the latter, and would be a sacrifice financially and otherwise more than he could afford at present.

Moved by W Harty seconded by EJB Pense that the priviso in the resolution appointing Dr Lavell be struck out and that he be required to devote as much of his time as he can afford

Dr Lavell made an interim report upon the allotment of professorships but the appointments were referred to the next meeting of the Board. The Committee upon class-room accommodation reported that Ontario Hall was the only room in the city building suited for the purpose of a College and that the special committee delegated to the City Council ask for its use.

Adjourned till Tuesday July 24th at 8 P.M.

At the third Meeting there were present Wm Harty, Vice-Chairman, Hon. GA Kirkpatrick, EJB Pense, Mrs Dickson, Miss Gildersleeve

The minutes of the last meeting were read and adopted.

An offering of a $50.00 scholarship from Mrs D Trout was received and gratefully acknowledged.

Mrs Dickson and Miss Gildersleeve were requested to solicit subscriptions of two more scholarships in order to make Mrs Trout's available.

Dr Lavell reported in favor of the following appointments to the Faculty

Obstetrics & Diseases of W & C. - Dr M Lavell Surgery - Dr M Sullivan
