NORWOOD,

May 2, 1933

Helen Hunt Jackson said, "Ah! March, we know Thou art kindhearted, spite of ugly looks and threats and out of sight art nursing violets".

When we assembled at Avalon on April 4th, for our first meeting of the Horticultural we could have thought many beautiful spring flowers and shrubs had been nursed by a grey cold March. The spring flowers seemed to be all around us, we were greeted by a carpet of crocus' and green.

After luncheon we aseembled in the living room the usual call for order was made by the chairman, Henry J. Nichols. The minutes of the meeting at The Cedars, October 4, 1932 were read and accepted. As called for in our By-Laws the Apirl meeting of our Society is a more business meeting. The By-Laws and Constitution shall be read and every two years were re-elected, Henry J. Nichols, President, Robet H. Miller, Jr. Vice-President, Mary M. Nichols Secretary-Treasurer. The appointment of Helen N. Farquhar as Forethought was again made. There were no volunteer articles.

A very good attendance of Horticultural members with some guests assembled on the lawn at Falling Green for the August meeting of this time honored Society. This fine old home so wonderfully preserved has been the meeting place of many Horticultural Groups. Out of it came presiding officers members since the organization and the cooperative and interest of those who have followed are now one of the strongest ties that hold the Horticultural Society together. In the absence of the Pres. Robert H. Miller Jr. Vice Pres called the meeting to order. The minutes of the July meeting at Cloverly were read and adopted without change. Helen Hallowell appointed reader gave us advice on the planting of shrubbery. Have planting place well prepared as to soil. Arrange roots carefully. Lime shrubbery before planting if required.

Tanglewood - April 2 -'35

The first meeting of the Horticultural of 1935 was called to order after lunch at Tanglewood by Henry J. Nichols with Helen N. Farquhar acting as secretary.

Minutes of the meeting at Falling Green in October '34 were read & adopted followed by a letter from the guest speaker at that time, Dr. W. R. Beattie of the Agricultural Department who apparently enjoyed the meeting so much as we did in having him & Mrs. Beattie with us.

The reading on the Constitution and By-Laws preceded the election of officers for the next two years and as the President & Secretary who had served us so acceptably for several terms asked to be released. Clarence Hurry accepted the Presidency & Mariana S. Miller the office of secretary - treasurer with Robert H. Miller Jr. again Vice-President.* * Edith B.
