Dec 31 Friday Jan 1 1895 Grace washed the colored clothes a soft day, cloudy, wind NE. Voltie went to help Wellie set nets but found the ice very poor, didn't set any. Mart choring around as usual. Bamford mending harness in Kitchen. Mart went for the meal. Thawing all day with some rain in P.M., weather very thick and dark.

Voltie over to Wills in evening.

22 Wednesday Dry, no rain

23 Thursday Aug 1894 A dry smoky time, no rain for a long time. Drove to dock this morning but found the boat had come and gone at six. Only passenger from this dock being Wellington Burnham who kept the arrangement to himself after the change of time had been entrusted to his telling. Eveline and children here all day. E & G & M milk the cows early so Mart can drive Grace to Halliday this eve to go on the boat tomorrow morn. Mart got home about 10 PM bringing B.H.W. Ranous

24 Aug 1894 Friday Still dry, hot day smoky no rain, woke up this morning to find H Watson here. Mart threshing for Ranous. Voltie digs potatoes. I go reconoitering around the corn and bean field. I help Voltie milk. I milk one cow and V milks thirteen. Mart came home early and drove to Halliday's for Grace. Poor Will got tooth ache


Saturday 25 August 1894 A still warm very smoky day, dry, every thing looks withered and dying for want of rain. Threshing at Horn's to day. Fred Joy brought us some beef $1,25 cts. Harry Watson here. Voltie and Mart shingling the old barn this afternoon. Eveline is honored with Mrs Delia Ormsby as guest this PM. Thunder.

Sunday Nov 1 Came hoome fro Belles to day. Charley brought me. Martha Irvine laid in the vault to day. Charley drove in to Irvine yard and we drove down behind the funeral procession. We found Miss Foley here. Charley stayed to dinner. When he went home Miss Foley rode in buggy as far as Morgans consession [sic] road. Rachel here a while.

Monday 2nd November A beautiful autumn day. Voltie mixing cement for the wall. Wells Jr went to J Niles to do some carpenter work for him, found the folks gone to the Card Ranous weding except John Sr - so came back and help V. Mary Farr (Widow) there keeping house for shower. Hank drives down for Shell to go to wedding.
