A small building S.E. of the church, which may have been a baptistry, bears a date in Syriac corresponding to the year 513 A.D. This I believe is later than the church, for the mouldings of the piers of the apse arch and of the nave are of early profile, more like those of the portal of a house nearby which is dated 424 A.D. and still more like those of the IV century church of Fafirtan, see p. 90.

A number of stoae are preserved in 2 stories. All consist of 2 stories of piers, though in one case the upper half of the piers is carried into a column.

The curiously irregular house shown on opp. p. and dated 421 and 453 A.D. is of better workmanship, and some of the walls are still standing. The place is full of large rock hewn chambers which may have been cisterns and presses. They are now used as stables, but there are no conveniences for cattle, as the approach is difficult.
