My Dear Sister

Your sometime expected letter came duly to hand by the Last mail. I am glad to see that you have so soon got through with your troubles. It seems that the name of M^cIlvaine is not Likely soon to die out whatever may be said for that of Olden. By the way I see by the paper that our venerable relative the Duke of Oldenburgh has recently deceased & what is very remis [remiss] in his past has not mentioned me is his will, well I shall not put on mourning for him anyhow.

You were smart enough to direct my letters to Marysville & I got yours yesterday. Sara's was directed to SanFr San Francisco & I got it by express to day [today] dont [don't] say any thing to her about it as I have said enough in some of my previous letters. I am happy to say that all your fears on my behalf were unfounded. I have retained my Situation and am by far the most popular agent here. I am vain enough to think that much
