73 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE due examination said bond is approved and the said applicant making due proof that they are persons of good moral character it is therefore ordered thatupon their compliance with all the other provisions of said Ordinance the clerk be and he is hereby instructed to issue said license as applied for. And now the ordinance committee submits Ordinance No. 279, the same being entitled as follows to wit: "An Ordinance fixing the amounts and kinds of taxes for the year 1882" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption Thos Clancy, John Collins, Wm A Jennings, John Keenan and Chas McDonald. Against adoption, none. Said tax levy is as follows, to wit: City Fund two{2} Mills per dollar Fire Fund one {1} Mill per dollar Gas Fund one {1} Mill per dollar Road Fund one {1} Mill per dollar Road Toll Tax Four dollars for each person liable. A petition is received from H L Yeslar and others praying that the money proposed to be appropriated for the purpose of building a city hall be diverted to the purchase of a new Steam Fire Engine. Ordered that a committee consisting of John Collins, Wm. A. Jennings and Charles McDonald be appointed to negotiate for another Steam Fire Engine. A petition is received from Smith & Farrar and others praying for the appointment of John Baker as a special night watchman, his salary to be paid by petitioners. Said petition is granted and it is ordered that said John Baker be and he is hereby appointed special night watchman. Ordered that the bid of Narcisse Le Breache to slash 5 acres of the City Cemetery for $20 per acre be accepted and state he be instructed to perform the labor.

Ordered that the health officer be and he is hereby instructed to proceed to destroy or dispose of the bedding and furniture in the New England Hotel used by certain small pox cases. Blanchard Co Wholesale Liquor 1 year June 12 - 1882 do Retail do 1 " June 12 - 1882 Trainey & Ackery do do 3 mos June 3 1882 The following claims having been duly audited by the council are ordered paid by warrants drawn on the funds and in the amount as follows, towit: City Fund Seattle Chronicle Printing No 82 $80.10 Cemetery Fund Narcisse Lebrachs Slashing No 1 $100.00 And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 283, the same being entitled, "An Ordinance to provide for the levying and collecting of a special tax for the purpose of raising funds to pay for the construction of a sidewalk along the north side of Jackson Street from the west side of Eighth Street to the west side 9th Street, those crossing said Jackson Street to the south side thereof, and from there along the said south side of said Jackson Street to the west side of 12th Street, together with all necessary and lawful charges incident thereto" After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote, towit, In favor of adoption John Collins, M. Densmore, Wm. A. Jennings, Chas McDonald and G.L. Manning. Against adoption, none. And now the Ordinance Committee submit Ordinance No 284, the same being entitled, "An special ordinance to provide for the construction of a sidewalk as follows, towit: Commencing on Stewart Street at the alley which runs through block thirty-five(35), there along the north side of saod Stewart Street to the west side of Tenth Street, there along the west side of said Tenth Street to the north side of Virginia Street, there along the north side of said Virginia Street to the the north boundary line of the City of Seattle, in the County of King and Territory of Washington." JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Be it remembered that on this the 16th day of June 1882, the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment of May 9th 1882. Present His Honor, the Mayor, L. P. Smith and Councilman John Collins, Thos Clancy, Wm. A. Jennings, John Keenan, Chas McDonald and G. L. Manning. Thereupon the following proceedings are had. The Ordinance Committee submit ordinance No 285, the same being entitled "An Ordinance to provide for the erection of a Building to be used as a Council Chamber, Fire Engine House and City Jail, in the City of Seattle, in the County of King and Territory of Washington." After due consideration said ordinance is adopted by the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption John Collins, Thos Clancy, Wm. A. Jennings, John Keenan, Charles McDonald and G. L. Manning. Against adoption, none. A petition is received from B. F. Day praying for the removal of a fence from 9th street and for permission to build a sidewalk; thereupon the same is referred to the Street Committee. A petition is received form Mrs E. Buscal et al praying for the placing of the gas lights on Second and Cherry Streets; thereupon the same is referred to the Gas Committee. Ordered that the Cemetery Committee be and they are hereby authorized to procure the cleaning of two(2) or more acres of the Cemetery. And now the Street Committee whom was referred the remonstrance of A. Spaulding et al against building the sidewalk on 11th street report on the same and recommend that said proposal sidewalk be not built; thereupon said report is adopted. And now the Council proceeds to reconsider the order if June 2nd 1881 by which the bid of T. P. Roberts on 11th street sidewalk was accepted; thereupon it is ordered that all bids for the construction of said sidewalk be rejected.

COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE And now the Street Committee submit a contract between the City and T. P. Roberts for the construction of a sidewalk on Jackson Street; Thereupon said contract is approved and it is ordered that the mayor and clerk be and they are hereby instructed to execute the same on behalf of the City. Ordered that the Marshall be instructed to remove the peanut stand from the corner of Front and James Street. Ordered that E. N. Rea, contractor, be and he is hereby granted the right to land stone, on the Washington Street incline, to be used in the construction of the new City Building. A petition is received from A. A. Bell et al praying that roadway on Tenth and Stewart Streets be changed; thereupon the same is referred to the Street Committee. A petition is received from J.H. Marshall et al praying for the opening of the alley in Block 2, Maynard's plat; thereupon said petition is granted. Ordered that a committee consisting of Chas McDonald, Wm. A. Jennings and G. L. Manning be and is hereby appointed to take into consideration the matter of Street Grading the City of Seattle.
