And now the Gas Committee report in the matter of attending the street lamps recommending that the contract be awarded to J. L. Kahaley. Report adopted and contract is awarded. And now the Council proceed to consider Ordinance No 297 entitled "To provide for the letting of certain contracts for sidewalks on Pine and 9th Streets and Stewart, 10th and Virginia Streets under Ordinances Nos. 280 and 281; thereupon the same is adopted upon the following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption Collins, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald, Manning and Rasin. Against adoption none. And now the Council proceed to consider Ordinance No 298 entitled "A special ordinance appropriating money to pay audited bills"; thereupon after due consideration said ordinance is adopted upon the following vote, to wit: In favor of adoption Collins, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald, Manning and Rasin. 302 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE July 16/83 of the following assessment roll, towit: For the Improvement of the alley through Blocks A, B, C, D and E of Denny's plat under Ordinance No. 384; For the Improvement of Main Street under Ordinance No. 385; For the Improvement of Columbia Street under Ordinance No. 386; For the Improvement of James Street under Ordinance No. 387; For the Improvement of Eighth Street under Ordinance No. 388; All filed June 5, 1883. For the Improvement of Cherry, Ninth and Twelfth Streets under Ordinance No. 395 all Filed June 22, 1883. For the Improvement of Pike Street under Ordinance No. 400. Filed June 22, 1883. Thereupon no complaints being presented with reference to any assessment of said rolls and the Council after due examination finding the same correct in every particular. It is ordered that the said assessment rolls be and they are hereby approved. And now it appearing to the Council that no appointments of Appraisers have been filed on behalf of the owners of property benefitted and condemned by the Extension of Jackson Street under Ordinance No. 396 the Council proceeds to appoint such appraisers; thereupon Robert Abrams and R. H. Calligan are appointed such appraisers. And now His Honor the Mayor appoints - Griffith Davies as the Third appraiser to assess damages and benefits under said Ordinance No. 396. Ordinances Received An Ordinance is submitted entitled "To prohibit the suspension of signs and transparencies over the sidewalks" thereupon after due consideration the same is adopted upon the following vote, towit: In favor of adoption Collins, Cosper, Clancy, Gasch, McDonald and Rasin. Against adoption none. The Attorney submits an ordinance entitled "To provide for lighting the street of the City of Seattle, and fixing the limits within which property shall be subject to a special tax for gas light." 563 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Aug 3 1888 street in the City of Seattle from Depot Street to Union Street Bell Street Ordered that a tax of four hundred and ninety eight (498) mills on each and every dollar of the assessed valuation of all the property included within the assessment district created by Ordinance No 917 be and the same hereby is levied on siad property for the purpose of paying for the improvement of Bell Street in the City of Seattle from fifth Street to Seventh Street. Ordinances 978 An Ordinance is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance to provide for the issuance of bonds by the City of Seattle payable out of Street Improvement funds, in payment for street improvements and for the transfer of moneys received from licenses from the general fund to Street Improvement funds for the payment if interest on such bonds and for the re-imbursing of the general funds from such street improvement funds" which is passed by the following vote viz: In favor of the same Burns, Durie, Jones, McCombs, McDonald, Niesz & Rietze.
