1854 Jany 28th The past week nearly the whole of week been at Mrs McCullocks with Surveyor Graves & Commissioner Dividing Land & the 7th of next is the sale & Division of the negroes of Jeremiah McCullock Decd we have a cold & part of the week wet, Our folks have been Cutting & striping Tobacco, Henry began to Hew down Barn but Did not finish, He is gone to mill this day to Millers 1 Bbl wheat for meal 3 Bushels of Do for chop & 1 Bbl Corn for mean – Turned very cold last night, & is so to day
30th Halling wood waggon & Cart alse & Kitty stacking wood. Fed & Sandy Cutting, Jacob getting shingles – clear pretty weather – –
Feby 3rd Burnt& sewed Plant On mountain & Covered it, Snowed a little
4th Halling wood waggon & Cart,- Turned quite Cold, went to Mrs Hunts to day
= 8 Rained nearly all day striping Tobacco nearly done prize Barn, finished yesterday Hewing down Barn nearly Burnt & sewed yesterday & the day before plant Bed in the Stash —
14 Since the 8th had sale & Division of Land & negroes at Mrs McCullock Paid E D Johns for his Int. in Jer. Eliza [?] & Elizabeth McCullock Jr Est. as refereed by Jno F. Patrick for me & Colo V. Dickinson for Mr Johns, Mr James M Fitzgerald attended to it for me Plowing for Corn malling in new ground This day striping Tobacco in prize Barn & trying to finish Raining to day 8 Lambs to this day - etc etc

Johnson is very Sick Doct Thompson has been to See me once for bleeding at nose & Johnson once very Sickly times about & good many Dying with Typhoid Fever etc etc – Fine growing weather at this time Lost Our bull sometiming lost at Capt Fitzgeralds plantation – got a letter from Jacob to day – Fine Rain this evening & to night
6th Plowing up Turnip Patch expect to sew it to day Put 3 Basket fulls of Guano on it Firing Plank cleaning out wheat yard sawing off Corn House Logs etc etc
7th working Out Johns branch Tobacco hand weeding etc sawing shingles clocks - cloudy & like for Rain —
8th Henry arnold & Bro. at work this morning @9/- pr day - on my granary shed etc worming Lot Tobacco this morning choping Tobacco on John’s branch, halling up Timbers for Corn house barn sho[e] making makers shop etc etc –
9th cloudy & like for Rain Henry & Jordan Halling up Timbers for Granary & Tobacco House sewing Turnip Land On Johns s Branch yesterday choping Corn this side of Branch Towards Orchard
10 Rained in evening, worked out Lot Tobacco, Toping new ground in evening
11 Tobacco Toping in new ground & Johns Branch Finishing Hilling up Lot– like for Rain, –– went to John D Hunts & Capt Clements to day to see about machine Plowing & Hilling up 3rd years land next to Orchard, did not quite get down with Ho[lost in margin]

H & Jesse pulling rafters on shed to Granary - this morning
24th worming & succoring Tobacco till 10 Oclock & went to Grubbing & cutting Mrs Mary Moseley Died wednesday evening 22nd day of augt & buried at Mr Jno D Hunts on Friday 24th Aug 1855
25 Halling Log to Mill Yates saw mill this morning waggon & Cart
Sept 2nd went to association at Sandy Creek MH near Milton, this week, We were while I was gone Ditching toping worming & succoring Tobacco & Shrubing Corn Land
3rd Toping worming & succoring Tobacco this morning & then to pulling fodder Jerry is Sick Dr Tho mpson been to see him Twice & Johnson 2 times & me once, - Sent to mill 8 bushels Corn for meal & get 2 Bags 4 Bus. there ground last week Henry got Shingles one or 2 days
13th From the 1st of this month we have been attending to Tobacco pulling fodder Cutting Tops Mr Evans Ditching etc etc I went over to Bolletot school gone 4 days don't like the Country at all Jacob here a day or Two ago to see us & get his cloth to make his winter clothes James M Fitzgerald gone to Springs we are gathering in Our Blades Stacking etc etc worming & succoring Tobacco
24th Cutting Tobacco last week part of week, stacked all our Blade fodder wormed & succored over tobacco I went to meeting at Strait Stone till wednesday & then I was taken sick & have been ever since Mr Fitzgerald has returned Springs no better from

1856 May 24th Millys Calf is a week or ten days old a Heifer we have Seven Lambs etc Jacob gone to Fannies to day - Election is over votes stand for Justices in this the 7th District Miles N Tucker 50 JWGraves 46. Saml T Miller 45. Thomas T Adams 38 & Doct John H Estes 32 votes for Sheriff in this Precinct Whitehead upwards of 60. Bennett about 13 for Commonwealth attorney Treadway Forest constable Jas P. Lewis overseer of the Poor for Comm. Yates 27 Tucker 18 Shelton Vincent 14 Shelton Saml T. 1.

26th Cutting off Second years ground Hills Henry Plowing in Corn – cool & windy Hester & Mr Faris Jack this day
27th Doct T. has been here 13 or 14 times to see Jordan Lowry & Buck Jordan particularly sick Weeding & Plowing Corn clear & windy my Bro Jonathon here at this time,- Tobacco Plants fine & beginning to dry a little —
28th Weeding & Plowing corn in Johns field
29th Plowing & weeding corn Planted Tobacco On Johns Branch yesterday morning as we had a late shower of Rain night before

30 Made Sheep Pen Hilling Potatoe Patch working & Plowing corn etc very clear & dry & windy Sandy taken Sick yesterday

June 1st Doct Thompson came to see the sick Jordan Lowry Sandy & abraham all sick Doct. Thompson has been here since 1st aprl about 14 or times I think Jordan bad off

Commencing 11th March 1856. This morning I Fed my Dogs as usual Caesar I reckon got Chocked & Dyed in 2 minutes or 4 minutes, we are treading out Oats this morning fencing about Tobacco Tobacco lot. Very like for Snow Soon this morning Very cold indeed windy & tremendous yesterday — Jordan Halling Rails around Corn field fence & lot at House yesterday & to day – — wrote to Danl Brown Indiana in this month etc etc
14 Plowing for corn till yesterday began to sew Oats Plowing Tobacco Lot by Garden Henry & Jacob Finishing Garden, Jordan halled Rails 2 days this week & finished malling wood in new ground, alse cleaning out Stable, Kitty Clem etc cleaning up on Branch Light full of Snow the 13th Thursday in evening
14th A beautifull day indeed clear & moderate
15th Went to meeting at Strait Stone fine day -
16th Beautiful day. pretty Cool & dry at this time Plowing up & sewing Oats On branch malling wood & Halling out new ground took up Irish Potatoes this day set out Turnips for seed about 100 in Turnip Patch last week,- clem alse & Kitty Piling wood in new ground,-
17th Raining to day Sewing some Oats Shoe mending fencing sent Henry to store, sent 1/6 for Paint & allum
20 Finished fencing Sewing Oats by Malissa House windy - - Fannie White here this evening Jerry & George Edd finished nailing on old Paling [water stain]day - Striping to day & yesterday [smudge][water stain] Rain, sent Mrs Moseleys will to [water stain] Geo. - Sawed about 40 [water stain] etc
