Wensday 5th Slept well all night head ach from a cold, received a paper from hom and a hymn in ballad form distributed them amoungst the men Bro Grant and Jualhia up to see Leiu Simpers of the 8th reg had a pleasant time with him and Capt Ireland came down the Potomak down the Bank of the Canal and crossed the Conaojie Creek at the aequdoc bought a spelling Book for one of my boys and saw some rebels that had just crossed over they had been in the woods for a week and they made good their escape the Col and adujant (spent) some time with me in my tent this evening in pleasant conversation read the last chapter of the Hebrews

Thursday 6th Wrote Home, recd a letter from Bro Miller Carter and wife wrote to the Sheriff of Cecil and C Crouch in elkton, sent to Hagerstown bought a Stove for my tent for which I paid four dollars had a prayer meeting in orderly Smith tent to night had a good time had a conversation with (the) man who was converted on Sunday night and took him into the Church on probation he is very happy ____read the 2 Cor 2 chap

Friday 7 Very cold and snowing all day tent very comfortable many visitors because of my stove Doct nelson came in and read several treatise to me on disease wrote to Bro Elliott of Elkton and Miller of Cherry Hill read the first chapter of James still snowing 9 oclk night

Saturday 8th was waked up at at 1/2 past two oclok This morning to go and see a man in the hospital at Williamsport who was badly cut in the head he belongs to the 12 Illinois Cavalry he is concerned about his sol prayed with and pointed him to the Saviour as best I could returned to my tent 1/2 past 4 o clock Recd a letter from my Daughter Mary and one from Mrs. Smith near Elkton about her sons release from the army in the afternoon visited Andru Smith prayed with him, left him weeping and praying. Visited the man I visited this morning they think him better went to the left wing of the Reg and make arrangements for preaching on the morrow read the first chapter of John and thus closes the day thank god for good health

Sabeth 9 cold and Ground frozen went over to the left wing at 10 oclock to hold meeting but it was so cold we had to dispense with the exercises Preached at 2 oclk in the Col office in the farm house my first sermon to a few of the Reg there is but little desire on the part of the privates for Preaching officers all present except two or three my text was John 1 & 46 verse subject, predgudice, had a pleasent time was encouraged from the attention given by my hearers had a pleasant conversation to night in my tent with captain christie he is a pleasent man and I think an experienced Christian read the 3rd chapt of (__) retired to bed cold in my head no better

Monday 10 warm and very pleasint wrote home to my family received a letter from home and a letter from my little favourite Mary R. Carter & also a letter from the bible house in Baltimore stating they had forwarded 600 Testiments to Hagerstown for the 6th Reg Visited both hospitals in Williamsport the man that received a wound in his head is very bad and i think will die Visited Mrs Smith both her sons are sick Andrew is a little better but very low. orderly smith of Co G and emery seabord visited my tent to night and spent some time in conviction of the wickedness of the reg Read the 3 chap of 2d Peter and prepared for bed
