this hotel which is three quarters of an hours ride from here. We are going to the top of Vesuvius tomorrow. Mama will stay here as the trip to Pompeii was too hard for her dear Papa. I am so tired I will not write any more now I will write you again after I have been to Vesuvius. I hope dear Papa you will come to us soon, we are very tired of being here alone without you. Mama gets dreadful home sick

houses were very fine, the streets are all paved and show the wear of the chariot wheels, the fountains in the streets show indentations where the hands rested of the many who stopped to drink, we went to one house that has just been cleared out, and the frescoes are beautiful the men were carrying the old ashes, and debris that had laid there for centuries out of the rooms in small baskets, the guide though he watched us very closely allowed me to take a piece of fresco that had fallen from the all on the floor.
