(Day after return from break) Monday 9 April
Dear Mom and Dad,
I hope you aren't planning anymore to come May 10. I just found out that our Prague field trip is then. Alos the expense, I agree, is way too extravagant. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner, I didn't know (no one did) but I should have thought of the possibility. I'm sorry it doesn't work out, but I will have pictures and it won't be that long. I wrote to Steve today telling him I will want to stay over about a month more. I really want to see Greece and Scotlant and others. Is that okay with you?
Thank you for all the letters. I got the [Thachalon?] material - nice photo of Dad in a rare moment of physical resting. Jeez Louise. Also got alot of letters. Thanks. I got 1 from Jeffie and 2 from Stevie. Real nice and funny.
I don't know how much of the trip I've written about.I think I stopped at Spain. Well the first night in France we camped out finally, at my suggestion. And I froze - ended up sleeping in the car, but it was cheap. The meals in France were much more $ than in for not as good. I wanted to splurge, but we didn't. I had rabbit once and steak tartar once. Not near as good as I was hoping. Your s. tartar, Mom, is much better. But we weren't in a ritzy place. All we really did in France was see some Chateaus in [Louie?] Valley and go back. Chateaus were pretty but I wasn't too excited about them. I liked Spain much more. The people are much nicer. The French on the whole seemed arrogant and snotty - especially customs and service stations. Some nice people though. Spain is also cheaper.

the 3-week trip cost about $220 I think. I haven't checked it out yet. Sounds like kind of alot but we did live kind of cheaply (buying in stores or skipping for lunch). It was for 3.5 weeks. Gas is also about $1 or more per gallon. It was a good trip. Housing draw was posted today as being next week. Jeez they sure give us alot of time. They have yet to send any info or materials. I don't know whether Mary will be at Stanford or not (I want to draw with her). If she isn't, I would like to draw with Mei Lin. Could you when you receive this try to call Mary and ask her to ask Mei about if she would like to draw with me. If she does (Mei that is) then have Mary tell her to let me draw for Mei and I. Tell Mary to write me as soon as she knows. I hope there will be time. I wote Mary today but didn't mention Mei. Thank you.
I am mad about Kevin getting the tennis job. What a jip. What a creep Chuck is. The Jessups won't be back, neither will Sue Sanchez (who wrote back). So its alright.
