11 Light N.W. to S.E. wind & calm dry first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours light variable winds fair weather - Sea quite smooth. General duties for the day - Keeper and Mr. Smith went trout fishing up North beach.

12 Light variable winds and calm these 24 hours first part of 24 hours damp - Last part of 24 hours light rain showers - Sea quite smooth - General duties for the day - The barometer is going down slowly - Light House Tender Manzanita arrived sometime during the morning and crossed the bar at 2:30 P.M.

13 Light E. to S. E. wind and little damp first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours light variable winds cloudy but dry weather - Sea little rough - General duties for day - Keeper & Mr. Smith went fishing - 1st asst went to Newport.

24 Light wind to moderate & fresh breeze S. to S. East and S. West with rain and hail squalls during 24 hours. Sea rough. General duties for the day. The bar to rough for steamer to cross Today. Mr. I. L. Smith went to Newport to get some supplies. Left the station at 8 A.M.

Smith went 12 miles up the north beach hunting and trout fishing - Left the station at 1 P.M.

25 Light variable winds and calm first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours light N.W. wind with high dry fog during 24 hours - Sea very smooth - 1st asst went to Newport - Had twenty three visitors - General duties for the day - Mr. I.L. Smith returned to the station at 7:45 P.M.

26 Light N. West wind with high dry fog first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours light to moderate fresh and strong breeze N.W. fair weather - Sea smooth. General duties for day - Had 20 visitors - Keeper & Mr. Smith went to Newport.

27 Fresh to strong breeze N.W. these 24 hours with clear fine weather - Sea very smooth. Keeper packing the coal oil cans in oil house to make room for the annual supply of oil - Had seventeen visitors today.

28 Strong to fresh and moderate breeze N.W. these 24 hours first part of 24 hours thick damp fog - Last part of 24 hours high dry fog. - Sea very smooth - Keepers putting 200 gals of mineral oil in oil room. Had twelve visitors - 1st asst went to Newport after mail. Steamer Manzanita passed cape at 2 P.M. and crossed bar to Newport. W.W Rhoades Inspector

29 Light N.W. wind these 24 hours first part of 24 hours high dry fog- Last part of 24 hours fair weather - Sea very smooth - General duties for the day- . U.S. Light House Steamer Manzanita landed annual supplies at Newport - Lieut Commander W.W. Rhoades arrived at the station at 10:30 A.M. inspected station and left for Newport at 11:45 A.M. Keeper and Mr. I.L. Smith went to Newport - Had 31 visitors - Mr. Meyers hauling annual supplies from Newport to station.

30 Light to moderate breeze N.W. first part of 24 hours thick damp fog - Last part of 24 fair weather- Sea very smooth - Keepers putting oil in oil house and taking invoice of annual supplies. Keeper and Mr. Smith went to Newport - Mr. Wiley hauling supplies to the station today.

31 Light N.West wind and calm these 24 hours with clear fine and warm weather - Sea smooth - General duties for the day - Keepers putting oil in oil house - Mr. Willey hauling annual supplies from Newport to cape - Had 25 visitors today.

General duties for day - Mr. Jhon Graves the forman on the Government duty was knocked off by the heavy seas and drowned at about 10.30 A.M. this morning.

15 Moderate breeze to light S.E. to South wind these 24 hours fair weather during 24 hours. Sea moderately smooth. General duties for the day. Steamer Willamette Valley sailed today. Keeper went to Newport. Had 1 visitor.

16 Moderate breeze to light wind S.E. to South with rain first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours light wind to moderate and fresh breeze S.W. with frequent rain squalls. Sea rough. Keeper & 2nd asst getting lice off of the hens and cleaning the hen roosts. Keeper Frank M. Plummer went to Newport to get the news about the Maggie Ross that was towed into Yaquina and make out the Wreck report about it. Keeper Frank M. Plummer left the station at 1P.M.

17 Fresh breeze to moderate and light wind S.W. to S.E. these 24 hours first part of 24 hours rain showers last part of 24 hours fair weather. Sea quite rough. General duties for day. 2nd asst putting dressing on his garden. Keeper returned to the station at 1 P.M. I understand that there is a great ammount of lumber coming ashore on the beach south of Yaquina bay. Mr. Edward Rice went to Newport left the station at 3P.M.

February 15: [continued from preceding page] from the schooner - the boat had three men. The hunter boat puller and stearer (sp). The men went to Newport to intercept them if they came that way.

16: Light East wind these 24 hours with cloud but dry weather. Sea very smooth. General duties for the day. Keeper and 1st asst went fishing today. Steamer Willamette Valley crossed the bar from San Francisco.

17: Moderate breeze to light East wind these 24 hours, first part of 24 hours cloudy but dry last part of 24 hours, clear, fine and warm. Sea very smooth. General duties for the day. 1st asst went fishing. Keeper went to Newport after supplies also to find out about the drounding (sp) of some of the crew from the Sealing schooner Oscar & Hattie. It seems a boat with 6 men in it put off from the schooner yesterday at 9 A.M. about 14 miles north West of the light (house, presumably) to land on the beach about 18 miles north of the light to hunt from the three men that did no return to the schooner the 14th and while going through the surf the boat capsized and drowned 5 men the Capt was one of them, his name is A.M. Gault. The schooner sailed past the light this morning at 9 A.M. and lowered a boat and came ashore at the light, landed a man and went to Newport to send word up to Yaquina and have a tug tow the schooner into Newport, which she did. There are still fifteen men on board the schooner yet. Had three visitors.

Keeper making out report about the drownding (sp) of five men off the Schooner Oscar & Hattie. Steamer Willamette Valley sailed at 2 P.M. today for San Francisco. 1st Asst spading in the garden. 2nd asst went to Newport to see a sick person. Left at 9.30 A.M.

19: Light North wind and calm with light rain showers first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours light N. West wind fair weather. Sea very smooth. Some of the crew of the Schooner Oscar & Hattie went up the beach to see if they could find any of the bodies that were drowned. General duties for the day. 1st asst went fishing, spading in his garden and went to Newport. Isaac L. Smith, 2nd asst returned to the station at 11.30 A.M.

20: Light N.W. to S. East and South breeze these 24 hours, first part of 24 hours damp. Last part of 24 hours light rain. Sea smooth. General duties for the day. The boat that the Capt and 4 men that were drowned from the Oscar & Hattie came ashore on the beach at the light house and was picked up by Keepers and William Megginson and 4 others and put up where it is safe from the breakers. 1st asst working in the garden.

21: Moderate to light Gale S. to S.W. first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours strong breeze S.W. squalls with rain showers during 24 hours. Sea rough. General duties for the day. William Megginson carried off the sail belonging to the boat on the beach.

22: Fresh breeze S.W. to light S. to S.E. wind with rain showers first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours light North wind, fair weather. Sea moderately smooth. General duties for the day. 1st asst went to Newport.

23: Light N.W. to East winds & calm with fair weather during these 24 hours. Sea smooth. General duties for the day.1st and 2nd assts working in the garden. 1st asst also went fishing. Keeper went over to Newport to the Capt of the Sealing Schooner Oscar and Hattie about the boat that came ashore at the cape. Left the station at 9. A.M. Mr. William R. Megginson threatens to put a ball through any Keeper that puts their hands on the boat.

Keeper painting in his quarters today. 2nd asst. went to Newport with ??? to have some teeth pulled. Left station at 10am.

8: Light S. East to South wind first part of 24 hours. Last part of 24 hours moderate to fresh breeze S. to S. West with frequent rain & hail showers. Sea quite rough. Keeper painting in his quarters. 2nd asst. returned to the station at 2pm.

24: Light variable winds there 24 hours with light fog showers. Last part 24 hours. Sea quite rough. General duties for the day- Keeper and 1st asst went fishing. 1st asst also packing wood from beach. 2nd asst not feeling well went 15 miles from station to see Dr. Rich. Left the station at 2.00 P.M.

25: Fresh & strong breeze N.W. these 24 hours with frequent rain hail and snow squalls. Sea very rough. General duties for the day. The barometer stands 30.5 today. Keeper getting ready to put 200 gallons of oil in oil room. Keeper and 1st asst sawing wood.

Keepers cleaning lamp and illuminating apparatus measures and oil brackets. 1st asst went fishing and to Newport. Had two visitors. Keeper and 2nd asst. repairing hen coop. The steam Schooner that was laying off the light Monday afternoon passed the light at 9AM coming from the north west went down to Yaquina bay and crossed in at 1:30PM. She seems to be disabled in some way.

6: Fresh breeze N.W. with rain & hail squally during 24 hours. Sea smooth. General duties for the day. Keeper went over to Newport to see and get a report about the steam Schooner Alare Blanchard that crossed into Yaquina Bay yesterday at 1:30PM. The Alare Blanchard became disabled in the gales that have been blowing off shore the 8 or 10 days. Sails blowed away waterloged and unmanageable. Andrew Carlson & Frank Ayede crossed the the Yaquina bay bar in a small boat went abord and piloted her into Yaquina bay. In crossing bar the chain on rudder brook and got afoul of

May 21: Keeper went to Newport to take Mr. Rice 1st Asst who is on his way to Portland to see a specialist about his eye as it is getting worse every day. Had two visitor today. Left the Station at 9:30 A.M.

22: Calm and light West wind with fair weather first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours moderate to fresh breeze South to N. West with rain showers. Sea smooth - General duties for the day - Keeper & 2nd asst went fishing.

23: Moderate to fresh breeze N. West these 24 hours first part of 24 hours rain showers - Last pat of 24 hours fair weather - Sea quite rough - Keeper and 2nd asst putting up stage and painting brackets black.

24: Moderate to fresh and strong breeze N. West these 24 hours with fair weather - Sea moderately smooth - Keeper and 2nd asst finished painting the Brackets on tower - and whitewashed some fences today.

25: Fresh to moderate breeze N. West these 24 hours - first part of 24 hours fair weather - Last part of 24 hours some damp fog - Sea smooth - Keeper and 2nd asst whitewashing fences around the cape.

West wind first part of 24 hours - Last part of 24 hours moderate to fresh and strong breeze N.W. with fair weather during 24 hours - Sea moderately smooth - Keeper went over to Newport to get some supplies and get the mail - U.S. Steamer Manzenita passed by this light at 2 P.M. going south stoped and placed the bouy off of Yaquina bar. Steamer Willamette Valley arrived off the bar at 4 P.M. and crossed in at 5:30 P.M. from San Francisco - Keeper and 2nd asst started to paint on the tower did paint a little but had to stop there being to much wind - Manzanita passed into Newport at 7 P.M.

The U.S. Steamer Manzanita came out of Yaquina bay at 8:30 A.M. and steamed away south. Willamette Valley sailed for San Francisco at 7:30 P.M.

2: Fresh breeze N. West these 24 hours first part of 24 hours light rain showers - Last part of 24 hours fair weather - Sea moderately smooth - Keeper whitewashig garden fence also painting stepps around dwelling & mixing white paint to paint office & Oil-House.

3: Moderate to fresh & strong breeze N. West these 24 hours with fair weather during 24 hours - Sea a little rough - Keeper & 2nd asst painting office & Oil-House white - Also painted pump frame & Keeper back stepps of dwelling. A gentleman two ladies and two boys came at the dwelling at 12 noon to go up in the tower - Told them they could go up after dinner which would be in about an hour but they would not wait.
