A cloudy dreary day but no falling weather. Jim stayed a round home most of the day. Ben moved in a hand. John Ward. He was until dark getting home. Then he carried Fanny Power and the children to the school house to a play. Nellie baked two cakes & Fanny one and made some pies. Fanny ironed some/ The cloths was not dry eneough to iron good. I mended Edna's coat this morning & churned and fixed up the butter this evening. Josie has suffered bad today. I had a letter from Carrie today. It is very colde tonight too.
A good day. Ben made a dog house & worked on a lounge in the parlor the rest of the day. I boiled a ham to day. I got dinner & churned. Washed the babys cap & two cloaks and ironed some. The mail brought several presents for Josie from Miss Bessie Hobson. Thelma sent things and a box of candy for me. The boys caught a possome to night. They give it to John Ward.
A good day. Ben & Jim hauled some wood and cut it with John Ward and Mr. Booker helped them. Mollie Reynolds come this morning and again this evening. She brought cake and pickle. I boiled two hams to day and had two hens cleaned. Lillian Kent come to see Josie today. Josie has bin very bad all day. Nellie washed and dressed Mabel (?) today. She has bin good today. Today the children went to School. Heared today over the phone that Ola Jefferson's boy was very sick. I am so sorry for them. I never heared of more sickness in my life. I don't think it is God's will. I wish they all could get well.
A cloudy day. The men folks put a lot of wood under the porch. I am glad that it is done. Ben and Henry walked to Straight Stone this evening. Got Edna some overshoes. She is so glad of them. Nellie done most of the cooking. I churned and washed a little for Mabel. Nellie let Mabel go with her to her room this evening. She was so glad to go. Endna and Franklin helped to get in wood. I hope that all of the sick are better and will get well. George Blair come for some work that John Ward had done for him.
A beautiful day. The men folks mauled some and hauled some wood for John Ward. Nellie got dinner and supper. I went to see Kate Harvey. She was at work. Irvin and Duepney brought me home. The children went to school. Dr. Owen let me go with him a part of the way. I was glad of that much help. Every one is good to me no matter when I go. I would be so glad to go and see all of my folks but I may never see them again. I want to see Carrie more than any one now.
A good day. Ben sent John Ward to Renan this morning for a matress and shavings. Jim cleaned up a brier patch and then went to John Hutchersons to a barn raising. This morning Nellie got dinner. She made the children some pies. I went to see [Mildred Ferguson?]. She is sick. Julia is worried a most to death about her. I come by Mr. Bookers and bought a few potatoes for the children. Well Ben has come to go to bed.
A good day. Ben worked on his ditch and Jim cleaned up [land?]. This evening they went to Mays to a cutting match. Nellie got dinner. This evening she went to see Mildred and staid all night. Mildred is no better and I am afraid she never will be. I sewed on my quilt. Mabel has bin very good all day. The children went to school. I gave John Ward my nice rooster. The young one had whipped him and would of killed him but I put him up.
A cloudy morning. Clear this evening. Ben and Jim could not do anything much. John Ward brought us two buckets of water from his spring. By twelve we could get water at home. We had no mail today. Heard this evening that no one had crossed the island today. Nellie got dinner. Ben cut some sallit. We did enjoy it. Ben went to Rob Hubbands this evening. Will stay all night. I think Edna miss him worse than any body else. Jim went with Mr. [Peak?] to Renan. I am about a sleep. Good night. Jo Edmons has mesles.
A good day. Jim and John Ward shucked corn all day. Nellie washed a big washing of cloths and got dinner and churned. The children went to school. Henry went to Renan for coffee. Ben has not come home yet. Lizzie Bennett come. Gorden brought her. Edna and I got a letter from Mrs. Car today.
A good morning. Rain this evening and thunder. Jim and John Ward finished shucking corn today. This evening Jim and Ben helped Norman Booker put some logs under his barn. Ben come from Role Hubbards. We all are glad that he come home. Lizzie Bennett and I went to George Blairs. Had a pleasent day. Earl Bennett come for his mother to go with him home. I come home early. It rained before I got home. Edna come from school sick. She may be taking the measles. I do hope she won't be sick much no matter what is the matter. The branch was up so we could not get water from the spring.
A beautiful day. Ben went this morning to get the horses shod and a [tire?] cut. He got his work done and got home by twelve. Then he eat dinner and went to the island for Guano. He has just eat his supper. 8 o'clock Jim has bin sick all day. John Ward went to the cutting match at Kate Harveys. Nellie made a dress for her self today. I got most of the dinner. Hattie Gilbert was washed here today. She done a good job.
A good day. Ben went to the island for Guano. John Ward went with him. They got home by dinner time. Jim worked cleaning up some land. This morning Jim went to Renan. He carried Mabel with him. Edna come home sick today. We think she has measles. Henry is complaining two. Nellie sewed on her some dresses today. I went to Johnson Reynolds this evening. Mildred Fergerson is able to sit up today. [?sla? B?] and [?enna] Anderson was there. Lizzie Bennett was there. She come home with me. I am glad to have her to stay what she will.
A clear colde day. Ben plowed half the day. John Ward plowed some this evening. Ben went to Renan and Cedar Forest this evening. He got a plow from Mr. Dews. Jim plowed up the garden and planted some things. Lee Brumfield is here tonight. Henry and Edna are both sick. They are broke out with measles. I do hope they will be better soon. They both got a lettr from their school mates today. Nellie cut and made Mabel two dresses and bloomers today. I doged a bout as usual.
A good day. Ben and Jim plowed some. They finished hauling up the corn. John Ward planted his garden. Nellie finished making the bayby two dresses and bloomers. I worked the button holes. Nellie washed all the evening. the post office in [Gretna?] come to see Nellie today. Henry and Edna has bin sick all day. Edna is some better tonight. Franklin has followed the men most of the day. Our phone has gone dead. Today we cant her over it so as to under stand any thing that is said. Ben went to Norman Bookers tonight to get them to phone Johnson Reynolds to come and fix it.
A windy day. The ground was frozen this morning. They plowed some here today. Johnson come and fixed the phone. Edna is feeling fine a gain. Henry is not so well. Nellie finished Ednas dress today. She has made the baby two dresses and Edna one this week. I dont do any thing that counts but keep busy most of the time. John Ward and family went visiting this evening. I guess they got very colde. Mabel seemed to have a colde. I am so sorry for her to be sick. Ben worked in his garden some this evening. I do hope it may get warmer tonight. Guess the fruit is killed.
A clear colde day. Ben and Jim worked all day. John Ward worked half the day. Then took holiday. Kate Harvey come to see us today. I was glad to see her. So glad she is able to walk that far. Jim got home last night and we did not hear Jim. Marvin brought him. I know he had a colde trip. I would of bin glad to see him and all the rest of them. I miss Nettie. Hendricks Baley has measles. Hope it wont hurt her much. Franklin is sick to night. We think he is taking measles. Edna and Franklin and Mabel did not eat supper.
A clear cool day. Ben and Jim cemented a round a spring up in the field. John Ward shelled some corn. I am glad tonight. Fate[?] and Mollie and Denia come a little while Cordie come with her mother. I was so glad that they come. I get to want to see them all but cant. Hattie washed for me today. Lelia washed five bed quilts for me today. I am glad that washing is done. I got a small check today. I am glad of that interest on my bonds.
A cloudy day. Ben and Jim put up wire all day fencing in a pasture. John Ward went to the mill with corn. He got his grinding done. I was glad to get some meal. I have bin lone some today for some one to talk to. The baby has bin good today. She slept some this evening. The other children went to school. They got in wood and got water and milked the cows and got supper.
A clear colde windy day. Ben and Jim worked on the fence some. Jim made a hotbed and worked in the garden some. John Ward draged the corn land. Ben got his gladolis bulbs. Jim got a letter from his son inlaw telling that Evylin was feeling better and that Nellie got to Silver Grove Sunday. The three children went to school. Mabel and I have a bad day. It was so colde that she could not stay out of doors and that was what whe wanted to do. I think now that I will enjoy warm weather. Edna has come to go to bed.
A good day. Jim went to mill. He got back by 11 oclock. He work on the garden all evening manureing and planting. Ben plowed all morning. This evening John Ward and Ben went to the island for guano. They were late getting home. I have bin busy all day. Fixed Ednas sweater sleeves. Made them short enough. Mabel has bin good today. Played out doors most of the day. I have not seen any body to day except Lelia Ward. Edna helped milk tonight. We had or first mess of plant bed salit today.
A good day. Ben went to the mill. Did not get any brand. Jim worked on the fence. John Ward went fishing. Lelia Ward come and done some sweeping. I put away some quilts this morning and churned and got dinner. This evening I got Mabel to sleep. Johnson Reynols come a few minutes this morning. Kate come a little while. She wanted cymbling seed. The children went to school. Ben finished Henrys clown suit this evening. I killed a hen this evening. Mabel got a letter from Evelyntoday. Whe was glad to [pen ran off page?].
A good day. The men went to planting corn. Today John Ward [draged?]. I got a letter from John today. I was glad to hear from him. Norman Owen is here tonight. Come with Frank home from school. I sent three dozen eggs to Blains this morning for [Bobbett?]. Mabel has not bin to sleep today. I have felt bad all day. There is so much to do. I am not able to do it as it should be done.
A good day. Jim and Henry and John Ward put in fertilizer an fixed some land ready for planting. The children and I went to Johnson Reynolds this evening. Edna and Mabel went to the store. Edna got some tobacco for Jim and a box of paper for me. Mollie walked with us part way home. Mr. and Mrs. Edmons come on their car and taken us on. I was glad. Mrs Edmons had bin to see her great grand son. He was born last night. Mrs Elders son. Franklin played all the evening with Paul Farthing.
A windy day. Very hard on the crop. Mr. Booker planted tobacco but it can't live long unless it rains. I got peas to day and cooked beans. It is a hard time a bout something good to cook. I want to be thankful that we are doing as well as we are. Kate Harvey and Pearl Wiggenton come a little while. Pearl brought Mabel a nice dress. Mrs. Car sent Edna a nice dress. I am glad that they have got them. John Ward went to Level Run to a burial. Mabel slept a good nap in the [s?ing] and have bein good ever since. Went to sleep.
A good day. Jim and Ben plowed all the morning. Ben cut wheat for Mr Booker. The children was invited to Mr. Rufus Carrs to a birth day party and Ben could not carry them. Edna cried. I wish they could of went. We had a vegetable dinner. Snaps, potatoes, peas, beets. I had an onion. The children was at Mr Bookers all the evening. This evening has seemed long to me here by my self. John Ward and Henry thined corn all day.
A good day. No rain. You never see the crop need rain worse. I cooked dried beans for dinner and I am glad to have themn to cook. I have plenty of chickens [lang?] enough to kill. Ben and Henry and John Ward plowed over some corn. They worked tobacco this evening. Christenia Reynols and Doris Brumfield come a while this evening. They looked [frest?] and good. I was glad to see them. Henry has gone seining with Mr. Mayhew and Hugh and Oscar Brumfield.
A cloudy day. A very little rain. Jim and Ben planted some tobacco and watered it. Then chopped in the tobacco. The threshing machine is in the neighborhood. Henry and John Ward went to help. They eat dinner at Jessie Hutchersons. Kate Harvey come to see us today. I was very glad to see her. I went and picked a few black berries. Hope to preserve them in the mroning. I don't know why I al ways go to sleep when I try to write. The three children is on a pallet to[?] tonight [sic].
A good day. No rain yet. Ben and Henry went to Gretna. They had a big tim. They eat dinner with Marvin and Carrie. Jim did not go. He worked most of the day. I made three quarts of black berrie preserves and killed two and fried them and baked a cake. That was our dinner. Vegetables has a bout dried up. John Ward had the team and went to Level Run to a big gathering of some sort. I gathered some berries. Intend making jellie tomorrow. The children are all in a glee tonight eating candy and blowing up their balloons. Good night.
A good day. The men hauled some flue wood this morning. This evening Henry and John Ward went to the mill. They got their grinding. Jim and Ben and I went to Gretna and to see Marvin and Carrie. We had a rough trip but I was glad to go. Alma Bennett is here. She has made the most of three dresses since yesterday. She got supper for me tonight. She is one handy girl. Oh how I wish I could see all of the children. Some of them that could come to see me won't come. Alma wants me to try on my new dresses.
A heavy rain last night. Cloudy all day. Rain again tonight. We want it to quit raining now as bad as we wanted it to rain. Jim and Ben and John Ward and Henry worked on the bridge over the branch most of the day. Jim and Henry went to Mount Airy for lumber to make the bridge. They carried a log to Starkeys mill. They got wet before they got home. Alma come from George Blains today. She said that they had commenced on the new school house. Henry tried to milk tonight. I hope he may learn. Edna can milk ok.
